They do get to about 9", but do well in smaller systems than you'd expect because they're fairly sedentary. Just make sure to have heavy filtration and a regular water change schedule because they have a decent bioload.
S.G. 1.026, pH 8.4, kH 9.5, Ca 400s, Mg 1400s, NO3 10-20ppm, PO4 0.1, Temp low 80s.
