You will receive an approximately 8 oz established starter culture containing live Grindal worms already living and reproducing in moist coconut coir.

This smaller starter size is a great option for anyone who wants to begin their own colony and grow it into a much larger culture over time.

Grindal worms are excellent live food for Bettas, Guppies, Killifish, Cichlids, juvenile fish, fry, and many other freshwater fish.

AFTER YOUR CULTURE ARRIVES

The 8 oz container is intended as a starter.

I recommend transferring the culture into a larger ventilated plastic container with additional prepared coconut coir. This gives the worms more room to spread, reproduce, and build a larger population.

When preparing NEW coconut coir, I strongly recommend treating it with boiling water first.

Pour boiling water over the coir and allow it to soak. Let it cool COMPLETELY to room temperature before adding any worms.

Drain or squeeze out excess water until the coir feels like a wrung-out sponge - moist but not dripping or flooded.

Never place worms into hot or warm coconut coir.

Once the new coir is completely cool, add your original starter culture directly into the larger container.

EASY CARE

No aquarium, filter, air stone, heater, or special light is required.

A simple ventilated plastic container works great.

Keep the culture indoors and away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

I primarily feed my cultures plain raw oats.

Feed only a small amount at a time and wait until most of the previous food is gone before feeding again.

Overfeeding can encourage mold.

EASY HARVESTING

A small flat feeding plate can be placed on top of the coconut coir.

Add a small amount of food underneath or around the plate. The worms will gather around it, making harvesting easy.

To harvest:

1. Lift the feeding plate.

2. Rinse the worms into a small cup of clean water.

3. Let the worms settle.

4. Carefully pour away the rinse water.

5. Feed the cleaned worms to your fish.

This helps keep coconut coir and debris out of your aquarium.

EXPANDING YOUR CULTURE

Once your colony becomes heavily populated, you can move worms and culture material into additional prepared containers.

This allows you to create multiple colonies and keep backup cultures.

I recommend allowing your newly shipped starter some time to settle and reproduce before harvesting heavily.

Orders completed early enough on a business day will normally ship the SAME BUSINESS DAY whenever possible.

Orders completed later, on weekends, or postal holidays will ship on the next available business day.

Please monitor tracking and bring your package indoors as soon as it is delivered, especially during very hot or cold weather.

If your culture arrives dead or unusable due to shipping conditions, please send me clear photos as soon as possible after the carrier marks the package delivered.

Photos are required shortly after delivery because these are living organisms and conditions can change if the package remains outdoors or inside a hot mailbox.

PLEASE NOTE

The 8 oz refers to the approximate volume of the complete starter culture, including worms and culture medium. It does NOT mean 8 oz of pure worms.

Worm population naturally varies because every container is a living and actively reproducing culture.

All cultures are checked for activity before shipment.
