Healthy, established Grindal worm starter culture raised in moist coconut coir.

You will receive approximately 16 oz of complete culture containing live Grindal worms in different stages of growth, along with their established coconut coir medium.

Grindal worms are an excellent live food for Bettas, Guppies, Killifish, Cichlids, juvenile fish, and many other freshwater fish.

RECOMMENDED SETUP AFTER ARRIVAL

I recommend transferring the starter into a larger ventilated plastic container with additional prepared coconut coir. The extra surface area gives the worms more room to reproduce and makes feeding and harvesting easier.

When adding NEW coconut coir, I strongly recommend treating it with boiling water first.

Pour boiling water over the coir and allow it to soak. Let it cool COMPLETELY to room temperature before adding any worms.

Drain or squeeze out excess water until the coir feels like a wrung-out sponge - moist, but not dripping or flooded.

Never add worms to hot or warm coconut coir.

Once completely cool, the original starter culture can be added directly into the new container.

CARE

No aquarium, filter, air stone, heater, or special lighting is required.

Keep the culture indoors at normal room temperature and away from direct sunlight or extreme temperatures.

I primarily feed my colonies plain raw oats.

Feed a small amount at a time and wait until most of the previous food is gone before adding more. Overfeeding can encourage mold.

HARVESTING

A small flat feeding plate can be placed on top of the coconut coir.

Place a small amount of food underneath or around the plate. The worms will gather around it.

To harvest:

1. Lift the feeding plate.

2. Rinse the worms into a small cup of clean water.

3. Allow the worms to settle.

4. Carefully pour away the rinse water.

5. Feed the cleaned worms to your fish.

This helps prevent coconut coir and debris from entering your aquarium.

EXPANDING YOUR CULTURE

Once the population becomes heavy, portions of the worms and culture medium can be moved into additional prepared containers.

This makes it easy to create backup colonies or build several cultures for a larger supply of live food.

I recommend giving a newly shipped culture some time to settle and reproduce before harvesting heavily.

Please monitor tracking and bring your package indoors as soon as it is delivered, especially during very hot or cold weather.

The 16 oz refers to the approximate volume of the complete culture, including worms and culture medium. It does NOT mean 16 oz of pure worms.

The exact number of worms will naturally vary because every container is a living and actively reproducing culture.

All cultures are checked for activity before shipment.
