Bring vibrant movement and color to your South American display with the iconic Red Head Tapajos Eartheater (Geophagus sp. 'Tapajos').
Renowned for being one of the most peaceful and stunning eartheaters in the hobby, this species develops vivid crimson-to-orange coloration across the forehead and gill plates as it matures, complemented by emerald-turquoise striping and bold red striping through the finnage.
True to the name Geophagus ("earth-eater"), they spend their days gently sifting through soft sand substrate in search of morsels, keeping the substrate clean and turned without disturbing tank decor. They are exceptionally mild-mannered for cichlids and make fantastic tankmates for angelfish, peaceful plecos, corydoras, and medium-sized tetras.
All individuals are tank-conditioned, fully quarantined, and feeding enthusiastically before shipment.
