This is a rarely-imported characin from northern South America.
Despite not being colorful, these fish put on a real show. They have long flowing fins and stay in a tight school most of the time; when dispersed the mails 'lure' the females with a specialized gill-plate extension.
The females are internally fertilized, a rarity in the characin world. Often fry will grow up alongside the adults in a species tank.
Hardy and easy like most tetras. More available at winning price.
