The Red Striped Eartheater (Geophagus surinamensis) is a peaceful South American cichlid known for its distinct red, horizontal stripe, shimmering scales, and sandy, silt-sifting behavior. They can Grow to 6–10 inches. These are babies so they can live in a smaller tank but when they grow up they'll need more space. Soft, sandy substrate is prefered and they are generally kept in groups or pairs.
They'll eat just about anything but prefer small, sinking foods like flakes, pellets, frozen, or live foods. They love to sift through sand for food, which they emit from their gills. This behavior also helps to keep your tank looking nice.
If you keep your water clean, pH neutral, temp 76-80 degrees they will grow and become the most awesome fish in your tank.
Tank Mates: Best suited for large, peaceful community tanks, often kept with larger catfish, Acara, and other peaceful fish.
