Native to the Rio Negro River Basin in Brazil, the L168 Butterfly Pleco (Dekeyseria Brachyura) have a stunning contrast of alternating gold and brown/black stripes. Interestingly, these plecos have the ability to change color. If kept on a dark substrate, they will look almost black, but if kept on lighter substrate, you will notice the contrast of the light/dark stripes. It is also important to note that plecos within the same group (population) can exhibit highly variable patterns. The L168 can grow up to 6.00" long. Plecos do best with driftwood and caves to provide adequate hiding places and breeding ground. They can be territorial during breeding but otherwise are peaceful.
