This listing is for large 2 oz. starter cultures of all four of the nematode worms widely cultured and used as a first/second food for fry of freshwater fish. They are healthy, sizable cultures used to start larger cultures that quickly provide fry food.
The worms are all extremely small to the unaided human eye. Their size differences are summarized in the chart in the image section. In my experience feeding fry, I use them in the order: vinegar eel – walter worm – banana worm – micro worm, with vinegar eels for the smallest fry, on up to micro worms for larger fry, juveniles, and nanos.
They do fine at room temperatures. If you’re comfortable it works. Higher temps speed up cultures, lower slow them down. Vinegar eels can stay alive in water up to a couple days, the others for less time. Worms get oxygen through their skin, so it depends on the dissolved O2 in the water. This package includes six, 6” long, wide barrel, 7 ml pipettes that are graduated in 1/2 ml increments up the 3ml stem. They are handy for dispensing medications, transferring fry and eggs (just snip the tip wider with a pair of scissors), delivering small foods right to the fry that need them without spreading them all over the tank, and many other applications.
