This listing is for 8 Humpback Limia, a distinctive and uncommon livebearing species also known as the Black-Barred Limia.
Unlike many commonly available livebearers, Humpback Limia develop an impressive combination of dark vertical barring, metallic sheen, yellow-gold coloration, and bold fin markings. Mature males develop the characteristic raised or “humpbacked” profile that gives the species its common name.
Humpback Limia are an excellent choice for aquarists looking for something more unusual than guppies, mollies, or platies. They are native to Lake Miragoâne in Haiti and are rarely encountered in typical aquarium stores.
Their appearance becomes increasingly impressive as they mature. Males can develop:
Females are generally larger and more subtly colored, but still display attractive vertical barring and a metallic tan or silver appearance.
Humpback Limia are active, social fish that are best maintained in a group. They generally make peaceful community inhabitants, although mature males may display and spar with one another without typically causing serious harm.
A planted aquarium provides cover, grazing surfaces, and security for adults and fry. In the wild, the species is associated with shallow, heavily vegetated water and is commonly found in groups.
Stable, clean water is more important than targeting one exact water parameter. As with many livebearers, they generally perform well in moderately hard, alkaline water.
Humpback Limia give birth to free-swimming fry rather than laying eggs. A mature group may reproduce regularly when maintained in good condition.
Dense plants, floating vegetation, moss, or other fine cover can improve fry survival. Adults may leave some fry alone when well fed and provided with sufficient space, but separating fry offers the best survival rate.
The listing photos are intended to represent the general appearance and quality of the group. You may not receive the exact individual fish pictured unless specifically stated.
Coloration can vary depending on sex, age, dominance, lighting, diet, background, and environmental conditions. Younger males may not yet show the pronounced hump or full adult coloration, as these traits become more visible with maturity.
Fish will be carefully packed for shipment. Please monitor tracking and arrange to receive the package promptly. Do not allow the box to remain outdoors in direct sunlight, freezing temperatures, or extreme heat.
DOA protection is for Next Day Air only. In the unlikely event of a loss, please contact me within 1 hour with two pictures: one of the unopened bag, and another of the fish out of the bag.
