The Pygmy Corydoras (Gastrodermus pygmaeus, formerly Corydoras pygmaeus) is a tiny, peaceful South American freshwater catfish that grows to about 0.75 to 1.25 inches (2 to 3 cm).
Care and Habitat Requirements
Minimum Tank Size: 10 gallons for a school.
Water Parameters: Temperature of 72–79°F (22–26°C) and pH of 6.0–7.5.
Substrate: Fine sand is recommended to protect their delicate barbels (whiskers) while they forage.
Lifespan: 3 to 5 years.
Behavior and Tank Mates
Schooling: Highly social fish that should be kept in groups of at least 6 to 8 (ideally 10 or more) to reduce stress and encourage natural behavior.
Swimming Style: Unlike traditional bottom-dwelling catfish, they frequently school and hover in the middle water column like miniature hummingbirds.
Compatibility: Excellent for peaceful nano community tanks with small tetras, rasboras, shrimp, and snails.
Diet
Omnivorous: They accept micro-sinking pellets, crushed flakes, frozen baby brine shrimp, daphnia, and micro-worms. Currently eating very well on Pygmy Bites and we'll include a sample to help with the acclimation.
