Description
Characteristics of Monoraphidium contortum
- Fast growing
- Stays suspended - long hang time
- Does not clump easily
- Robust
- Small cell size
- High biomass
- Does very well with F2 fertilizer
- Very high in lipids/omega-3
I isolated and began culturing this algae in 2025. As far as I or Google know, I am currently the only retail supplier of this species in the US. The starter kit comes with two 2 oz. portions of Monoraphidium contortum, 50 ml of F2 fertilizer which is enough to grow 25 gallons of green water, and six 7 ml graduated pipettes. The pictures above were taken shortly after a Quick Start
culture was placed in the container. The worms are already climbing the sides
and ready to feed with the swipe of a finger or a Q-Tip. While you are feeding
from these mature cultures, you can take a couple spoon-fulls and start a new
mother culture per the you get when you purchase your culture. Setup is as simple
as preparing a vented container, laying down a half inch or so of cooked oats,
