Description

Xiphophorus maculatus Tabasco, the Southern Platy. Rare Red color form, PLEASE READ ALL. Auction is for 6 juv fish, 1/2-3/4 inch, 3 with red coloring starting and 3 plain, fish are not sexable at this size. Both males or females may get red coloring. This is a rare form of wild platy. Collected on Tabasco. Only one red male collected along with peppered and plain females and additional males. I got those wild fish from the university researcher who collected them in 2015. I was able to get fry from the group and fry from the next generation. All are colony bred. The drops tend to be about 50-50 for red coloration in either males or females. The red ones start out with no color and after a few months pale red ones start to emerge in the group. The color in the red ones gets more and more intense as time goes on. These fish have blue speckles, black striping/peppering and some have intense red coloration. The red male is naturally occurring color variation. Not often seen or collected as the (a) red colored fish make themselves easy targets for predators. They naturally occur in the wild. According to the Phd collector, the fish were collected during a research project in a remote hike in area of the river. ..................... ............ ...................
