Description

6 unsexed, juvenile, red claw shrimp. The shrimp you are bidding on are about 1" long. These are a hardy, long lived, fresh water shrimp. Pictured are a young adult pair of shrimp to demonstrate the disparity in claw size between males and females. I keep mine in hard Lake Erie tap water at room temp(approx 68 degrees). I feed mine Tetramin flake, frozen brine shrimp and frozen bloodworms. I harem breed mine but really there is not much choice in the matter. Males grow quite large. My male is about 4" or more from claw tips to tail. He looks larger because of the long antenna. They are not shy. Females are about 1/3 smaller in size than the males and have much smaller claws. Males are very aggressive and intolerant of other males. The alpha male shrimp will dismember any rival males(I suspect in a large aquarium with sufficient cover multiple males may be kept together). I like to keep 3 or 4 females to 1 male. Females routinely berry-up and eggs hatch in about 40 days or so. Shrimpettes are miniature replicas of the adults less the large claws of the males. The adult shrimp largely ignore the youngsters. Red claw shrimp are slow but steady growers. They are long lived. At about 2" secondary sex characteristics will become evident as the males will quickly develop large claws. Typically, that is when the male fighting will begin as well. I've not kept fish with these shrimp. I probably wouldn't try it because any fish lying near the bottom at night would be pretty tempting to these guys I think. For such oversized claws, they have a lot of dexterity. As they mature the males become reddish in color and the claws will develop a deeper red color than the rest of the body. Shipping is $15 non-refundable on top of the winning bid. I would like to ship this auction Wednesday 10/16. So payment is due at the close of auction on Tuesday 10/15. If payment is not received as requested, I will relist the auction. Thanks for looking.
