Description

8oz deli container of tropical pink springtails shipped on sphagnum moss and leaf litter. More than enough to start your own culture and keep as backup. These are slightly larger than white springtails. You can feed directly from the container but I recommend using this to start your own cultures on charcoal. Springtails float on the surface of the water, appropriate for small surface feeding fish.

To feed off from deli cup: you can lift up a leaf and blow the bugs off into the water. For a bigger harvest, pour in dechlorinated water to flood the moss, then pour into another container. You will see the springtails puddling in the middle.

To start your own culture: Fill a plastic container with about 1-2 of natural hardwood charcoal, do NOT use briquettes! Rinse off the dust and fill with dechlorinated water to a level of , with all of the charcoal wet. Pour in springtails from the starter as described above. You may maintain a culture in the deli cup as a backup.

Both methods: Keep at room temperature. You can feed ground mushrooms, brown rice flour, or dry active bakers yeast. Do not feed more than they can eat in 48 hours, this will cause the culture to crash. I choose one leaf or piece of charcoal to feed off, so I can monitor their food and concentrate them for easy harvesting. You will need to either open the container daily for air exchange, or add vent holes. Cover these with mesh to prevent pests.

Payment, Shipping, etc.: I will send a paypal invoice after the auction closes. Please do not send as gift. Payment must be received before shipping.
Shipping is $12 USPS priority mail. I ship on Mondays or Tuesdays after payment is received. Includes a heat pack and insulation if overnight temps will drop below 40F. I will not ship if overnight temps are below freezing, please dont bid! If you would like a hold for pickup, I will need a telephone number.
DoA must be confirmed with pictures within the hour of the package being marked as delivered. I can either refund the cost minus shipping, or send another culture for the cost of shipping. Shipping cannot be refunded.
