Bolbitis heudelotii originates from West Africa, it is also known as African water fern, African fern, Bolbitis, Bolbitis water fern, Creeping fern or Congo fern. A beautiful fern with very distinct ribbed green leaves. It will grow up to 15-40 cm tall and wide. When planting this fern do not cover the rhizome because it will rot, and it is best to attach Bolbitis on a root or stone. Keep the plant in position with fishing line or plant glue until it has gained a hold. This plant will propagate easily by splitting the horizontal rhizome. Growth can be increased considerably by supplying CO2, and grown in soft, slightly acidic water. In the wild it is found as an epiphyte in fast flowing streams, lakes or rivers over sandy or rocky bottoms. In their habitat they are found to attach to rocks or wood by the threadlike rootlets extending from its rhizomes. It grows in submerged condition with very clean and slightly acidic waters. Its bright to dark green leaves make an attractive feature to your aquarium.
