Anubias barteri Golden Product ID: PL-AN01   Item Description You are winning 1 rhizomes of Anubias Golden - each rhizome has 6 - 8 leaves Name Anubias eyes (Anubias barteri 'Golden') Temperature 20 - 30 C (68 - 86 F) PH Level 6 - 8 Light Level Very Low - High Growth Rate Slow Overall Difficulty Easy One of the most sought-after species of Anubias for its beautiful gold color! Ideal to be attached to driftwood & rocks. It is a very slow grower and the leaves can last for several years.However, because of its slow pace, it is often prone to algae growth onthe leaves. Keeping the plant shading will sometimes avoid thisproblem. Anubias is best placed on a rock or piece of wood,using fishing line or cotton thread to hold it down. Unlike Riccia,which will not attach itself over time, Anubias will become attached tothe surface it is planted on. Therefore, cotton thread will work sinceby the time it disintegrates, the plant will be firmly secured via itsown roots. It can also be laid to rest against the top of the substrate(using an aquarium safe metal weight to keep it down) so that the rootscan seep into the substrate but the rhizome will stay out of thegravel. The rhizome must not be buried or it will rot away. Anubias is a good choice for low light aquariums since it can livein less than one watt per gallon of light. Its growth will be veryslow, but it will thrive nonetheless. It also fares well in higherlight aquariums although care must be taken to control algae since itsleaves are very prone to it. Co2 is not necessary for this plant to dowell, though with all plants, the addition of Co2 will boost the growthrate, especially when coupled with higher light and a good nutrientbase. Propagation of this plant merely involves making aclean, sharp cut through the rhizome, taking care to leave enoughleaves and root system for each new clump. Also, removal of old leavesstimulates new growth. This plant is also a good candidate for emersed growth and tends to grow faster when emersed. Because of its small size (only growing a few inches tall) and itsoutward, rather than upward, growth, it is suitable for theforeground or midground of medium to large tanks, and can be used asmidground or even foreground in smaller tanks. This plant is a greatalternative to using the larger A. nana when space is limited.
