10 Floating Pond Plant Sample Pack
Receive 1/3 Cup Salvinia 1/2" to /4" inch size
Common salvinia is native to South America. It is a small free-floating plant that grows in clusters and develops into dense, floating mats or colonies in quiet water, undisturbed by wave action. The floating leaves of salvinia are about 1/2 inch in size with the leaves folding and forming a cup-shaped appearance. Salvinias have stiff leaf hairs on the upper surface of the leaves. In common salvinia the leaf hairs have a single stalk that divides into four separate branches. Underwater the leaves are modified into small root-like structures. The entire plant is only about 1 inch in depth. Free floating plant. Grow in still shallow water. In hot climates, partial to full shade is best.
3 Mini Water Lettuce
Receive 3 floating dwarf water lettuce plants 3" inches to 4"inches wide. Water Lettuce grows best in shallow still, non-moving water. It is a fast grower and is excellent for oxygenating and clarifying the water. The plants float on the surface of the water with the roots dangling below. Do not use in koi ponds, as the fish will eat the roots and kill the plants. Water Lettuce makes excellent mulch around bushes and trees. Excess water lettuce growth can be piled up around garden plants or placed in the mulch pile. Garden plants love water lettuce in the mulch, because the roots contain fish emulsion filtered out of the water. Grow in full to partial sun.
3 Parrot Feather
Receive 3 Fluffy Parrot Feather stems about 6" inches long.
Parrot Feather looks like a tiny forest growing on the water surface of your pond. It is easy to grow in shallow still water. Best potted in sand, pea gravel or loam. It can also float on the surface of shallow still water. Parrot Feather grows by producing runners across the surface of the water. Propagate new parrot feather stems by pinching the stems in half and allowing to float. Full Sun. In severe hot months parrot feather grows best in Part Sun. Grow in still, non-moving water. Hardy Zone 6 and up.
3 Frogbit See more imges below...
Frogbit is a small floating pond plant that is very easy to grow both indoors and outdoors. Each frogbit pad is about the size of a nickle. Plants float on the surface of the water with their roots dangling below. Frogbit grows best in shallow still water. I prefer to grow mine in part sun. When grown in full sun, frogbit gets long oval leaves and produces small irridencent white flowers. I have actually seen frogs resting on frogbit plants! Frogbit is also very easy to grow indoors in an aquarium and under a florescent lamp.
