Giant Duckweed, Spirodela polyrhiza

You are bidding on a generous starter portion of Giant duckweed.
Approximately 75 plants, each with 3 to 4 leaves as seen below.

Giant duckweed is characterized by glossy leaves which are green on the top and red underneath. Unlike common duckweed which only has a single root per leaf, Giant Duckweed has a cluster of roots on each root segment. I find this makes it a better cover plant for tiny fry.

Giant Duckweed can get much larger than regular duckweed. With an extremely low nutrient level it may only be slightly bigger but with good conditions it lives up to it's name. It doesn't seem to get sucked into filters nearly as easily as the regular DW but I would still rocommend a sponge prefilter for HOTBs.

I am also going to include a little of the fertilizer mix I use so these plants will GROW and improve your water quality. Everyone has seen certain plants being touted as 'nitrate sponges' but the mere presence of the plants does nothing except maybe provide a surface for beneficial bacteria to grow on. They have to GROW to use up those nitrates. And if certain other nutrients missing, the plants may simply sit there with very little growth.

It is NOT Miracle-Gro or any other repackaged product meant for terrestrial plants. It's a lot more comprehensive than Leaf Zone and infinitely cheaper than the SeaChem line. Completely safe for fish and inverts. And most of all, nitrate-free since the whole idea is to keep nitrates in the tank as low as possible. Even with 8 - 10 hours daily of basic lighting (low light) you should have significant growth and cleaner water.
