This auction ad is for (6) stems of ludwigia ovalis. Stem size itself is running 6-12 not counting root size. You can purchase more than the (6) stems listed. Simply add $5.00 for an additional (6) stems. Shipping remains FREE! Background History: Ludwigia ovalis is a native to Asian waterways, particularly in Japan, China and Taiwan. This is a relatively slow growing stem plant when compared to other Ludwigia species. Because of this, it will stay lower to the ground than many other stem plants of its kind. Plant Profile: Scientific Name: Ludwigia ovalis Common Name: Ludwigia ovalis Difficulty: Moderate CO2 Requirements: Moderate Lighting Requirements: Medium Plant Arrangement: Midground Growth Rate: Moderate Family: Onagraceae Genus: Ludwigia Origin: Undefined/Unknown Plant Type: Stem Water Hardness: Medium (GH = 9-13 dH) Growth Characteristics Ludwigia ovalis does best in softer water, but can be maintained in slightly hard water conditions. Its leaves will contain a beautiful watercolor red/pink combination, but are very delicate to the touch. A nutrient rich water column (particularly in nitrate) will encourage the deeper colors on the leaves. Ludwigia ovalis requires a lengthy recovery time to adjust to new tank parameters. During this transition period it is known to lose its leaves, but will recover. As mentioned previously this plant has a slow to moderate growth rate under good lighting conditions. It can be prorogated through side shoots. Aquascaping Application: Ludwigia ovalis is a fitting stem plant in the midground areas of a planted aquarium. Its slower growth rate allows a foreground to completely fill before require extensive trimming. To trim, aquascapers will divide each stem and replant the healthier tops. Like other stem plants, a busy effect can be achieved by cutting just way down the stem, above the internode (point where leaves attach), and allowing the side shoots to grow out. Its oval, red leaf structure will make a striking appearance in Dutch Style, or Nature/Dutch Style designed aquariums. Shipping: All US orders are FREE SHIPPING!
