This is a great plant to use to extend time between water changes. in order to use this plant to export nutrients out of the water column, trim roots once they get over 8-10 inches long and then place plant back into the aquarium. you can trim the roots over and over again, it wont hurt the plant. I have a video of this process on my YouTube channel. Ricciocarpus natans is a unique and fairly rare floating aquarium plant, also known as Purple-Fringed Riccia because of its purple root-like structures which hang from underneath this plant. The floating part of this plant is fan shaped and glossy. It is a bright green color and if under high lighting, the 'roots' will turn purple in color. If grown in low lighting, the roots will not be purple. Ricciocarpos natans is the only species in the genus Ricciocarpos, a genus of liverworts in the family Ricciaceae. It was formerly listed in 1759 as a species of Riccia by Linnaeus, but then assigned to a new genus of its own in 1829 by August Carl Joseph Corda. These plants are very small, each plant is about 1/4 inch in size, 5 plants put together are no bigger than a dime. they reproduce quickly, and make for a unique addition to any aquarium.
