This is the perfect combination of plants for people who have livebearing fish.

Many years ago when I first started keeping fish, I followed the general advice and took my female livebearers out of the main tank and put them into a breeding box. They got stressed, and they held their fry in, and one batch of more than 20 fry was born dead.

I decided that the boxes were not working and I figured out another way to do things. Now, I have floating plants in my tanks and the fry have a very high survival rate. The floating plants shelter the fry and hide them from their parents. If you are looking for the perfect combination of plants that will keep your fry safe, this is your day. Ever since I combined these two plants in my tank, my fry have been safe from harm. The numbers of fry increased dramatically, from five or six surviving babies at a time to now almost forty. I can't even claim how many there are; I can't count them.

If you're looking for a way to keep your baby fish alive, this is it. These plants are not picky and don't care what substrate you have or if you inject CO2. They are floating plants, which means all you need to do is put them in your tank, and they're off. Unlike duckweed and the more common floating plants, they actually go a few inches down into the water, so the fry have recesses to hide in.
