Pick A Plant Auctions

I am probably best known for putting together "custom" packages within your budget or package auctions of "my choice".  I still want to be known for that, but I would like to put the choice and creation in your hands.

The idea is very simple.

I am going to concentrate on groups of similar types of plants.  Tell you a little bit about each one in that group and let YOU DECIDE which ones you would like in YOUR PACKAGE!

NOT ONLY THAT

I am going to offer you the best quality plants at the best BOTTOM DOLLAR.

So check out my all my PAPA auctions and pick and choose as many as you like and take advantage of mixing and matching with one or multiple PAPA auctions.

Potted Plants

At the Nursery

Let's talk about potted plants for a moment.  Growers and nurseries use small 2" pots typically made out of plastic to grow many plants with the help of a spongy material known as rock wool.  This method allows them to deliver nutrients more efficiently through the water by methods known as hydroponics.  This method allows them to grow them fast enough to keep up with the demand and potted plants tend to have better root development which helps them establish faster in your tanks.

Because of this method, many plants are grown immersed which means that only the roots are under water.  This also allows many plants to grow faster and stronger as well as having easier access to needed light and CO2.  This also helps tremendously in terms of shipping.

Because these plants are grown immersed as a majority of them do in nature, we the hobbyist have to "train" them to live submerged or under water.  It is typical for new plants to go through changes while being trained or acclimating.  Leaves that are thick, hardy and able to stand up on their own may slowly die off while soft, limp leaves form.  Leaves may narrow and become needles, they may crinkle or become wavy, and some will change their shape completely as if to be two different types of plants.  All of these changes are normal and should be expected and given time to convert before you give up and pitch them in the trash.

In Your Aquarium

Although it is not recommended, many hobbyists that have bare bottom tanks and realize the advantages of live plants in their breeding and raising, use potted plants to their advantage.  At first, the rock wool could still have essential nutrients inside from the growers, but over time it will become inert.  However it is still possible for nutrients in the tank to be absorbed through the mesh pot.  This allows the pots to be simply "tossed" into the tanks.  Eventually, the plastic pots will stunt the growth by restricting the roots, especially plants like swords with secondary roots.  But there still is a solution for plants in a bare bottom tank.  The solution is clay pots.  By using clay pots, you now have the ability of adding substrate and more room for the roots, while still having the ability to remove the pot when cleaning or catching fish.

To plant potted plants, other than plants like anubias, it is a simple process.  Remove the plastic mesh pot and gently open the rock wool and remove all of it or what willingly comes off without damaging the plant.  If roots are entwined in the rock wool, just leave it alone.  In some plants, especially if you just received them, cutting off some of the roots will encourage new growth.  Most roots are damaged or "dead" when in shipping anyway and the faster new roots grow the faster the plant will recover.

It is a good idea to space your new plants out so the leaves of one plant are not shading the leaves of another.  Use your finger to make a hole and guide your new plant in and then cover the roots with substrate and you are done.

Again, not all plants go through "morphing" when acclimating, but give them a chance to grow back before you throw in the towel.

Enough TALK

Let's DEAL

This auction is for Potted OTHER Plants.  You pick 'em, I ship 'em.

The deal is simple.  I am going to show you the OTHER plants I commonly deal with and tell you a little about each one.

Then it's your turn to decide which ones you would like to try.  You may order just one or as many as you want.  You may order all of the same or mix and match.  It is TOTALLY UP TO YOU.

Ok, so what's the price?

How about $3 a pot plus shipping?  That sounds good to me how about you?

Ok so how much is shipping? Well, I have thought long and hard about this and I think everyone knows by now that I care about crap like that.  The cheapest I can ship is about $5 so how does that sound?

Ok so if you buy one plant for $3 and add $5 for shipping, then that means you just spent $8 for a plant.  Well, I have to be honest with you here.  I think that's crap.  $8 for one plant ins't a deal unless it is simply your only option.

So what if I told you that you could buy up to 10 pots and still only pay $5 shipping?  NOW WE ARE TALKING DEALS HERE!!

So $3 a pot for as many as you want plus shipping as follows

1-10 pots $3 each add $5 shipping
11-19 pots $3 each add $10 shipping
20-36 pots $3 each add $14 shipping
37+ pots *$2.50 each email for quote

*Price good for ANY potted plant on or combined with ANY PAPA auction except for Anubias unless to save on shipping ONLY.  Please email if you have questions.

That's the best bottom line deal I can offer you folks.

So let's look at your choices

Four Leaf Clover

This is a taller growing variety of four leaf clover that will probably change leaf shape once submerged.  Marsilea Quadrifolia is the most common one we deal in of the many clover varieties.  The growth and look of this plant may directly depend on the light as it seems to be able to adapt at the widest range.  Strong and high light will possibly keep this plant shorter while low light will make it stretch taller.  Pots are shipped out around 6-10" tall.

Almost ALWAYS in stock.

Light:  Low-High

Temp:  72-82 F (22-28 C)

pH:  6-7

Dwarf Onion

Zephyranthes Candida is a different variety of onion not like the crinum.  This plant had thin round reeds that look like grass and the best description would be think of a green onion in your fridge.  I really don't think it is know how tall onions get because I have had onions outgrow all the books because they probably do not like to  read them either.  The pots will typically ship out full, and sometimes busting at the seems, with leaves 10-15" tall or better.  You may or may not see the bulb of the onion in the pot, but always a good idea with any onion to expose the top portion of the bulb and not completely bury it.

Almost ALWAYS in stock.

Light:  Moderate

Temp:  72-86 F (22-30 C)

pH:  6-7.5

Always a good idea with any onion plant to leave the top 1/3 of the bulb exposed and not buried in the substrate.

Giant Hairgrass

The name says it all.  Tons of tiny round diameter grass that grows tall.  However it can be another plant that growth is affected by the intensity of the light.  When this plant gets too dense, it may be a good idea to split it up and separate it and even a good idea with your new pot to help it get established.  Keep the crud out of your tank, or it will get trapped in the grass and cause problems blocking light.  Otherwise, this plant should be rather easy to deal with.  Eleocharis Motevidensis pots ship out full and about 12-24" tall.

Almost ALWAYS in stock.

Light:  Bright

Temp:  64-82 F (18-28 C)

pH; 6-8

Hygro Augustifolia

Hygrophila Corymbosa is a common hygro with various leaf varieties like augustifolia.  Most hygros are adaptable to a wide range of aquariums and are known as fast growers.  This plant is probably no exception and it will grow our of your tank if left along like in nature and will possibly produce flowers for you.  It will probably do better in harder water and can even handle cooler water.  For the BEST results with this plant or any hygro, having bright light, CO2 and iron will really make it pop.  These pots ship out around 6-10" tall.

Almost ALWAYS in stock.

Light:  Moderate - Bright

Temp:  68-82 F (20-28 C)

pH:  5.5-8

Might better preform in hard water with bright light and the addition of CO2 and iron

Ludwigia Broad Leaf

Ludwigia plants typically sell in bunch plants, but the potted ones are more established and have roots developed typically.  Ludwigia Repens is a cool plant and probably one of the easier ones in the family of ludwigia.  The color of this plant is usually determined by the intensity of the light.  Lower light will keep the plant green and probably cause it to stretch while stronger light will turn the tops of the leaves olive green and the underside a fleshy red similar to cardinal plants.  This easy to grow plant will grow fast with good light and continue to grow across the surface creating a cool canopy much like vals do.  Keep it trim and neat or let it go wild.  Pots ship out around 6-10" tall.

Almost ALWAYS in stock.

Light:  Bright

Temp:  68-82 F (20-28 C)

pH:  5.5-8

Ludwigia Cuba

This ludwigia is a little harder than the broad leaf.  Very similar in everything except the shape.  Once this plant is submerged, the wider leaves will fall off and the new ones will narrow to half the width.  With the addition or more leaves, it is important to consider the light.  One stem can be very bushy and it may be a good idea to separate the plant out of the pot and space the stems 2" apart to allow them an easier acclimation.  This plant can also have shades of red on the underside and will make a nice addition to the middle of your tank.  Pots ship out between 6-12" tall.

Almost ALWAYS in stock

Light:  Medium - High

Temp: 72-82 F (22-28 C)

pH:  5-7.5

Moneywort

Bacopa Monnieri is a confused plant I think.  This plant can grow in a wide range of conditions.  Those conditions will dictate how the plant will grow.  If the light is bright, then the plant will stay short and the leaves will be close together on the stem.  If the light is lower, then the plant will stretch taller and have leaves spaced apart on the stems.  It has been told that with really good lighting this plant can make a good foreground plant.  Sounds like a great experiment!  Pots ship out 6-12" tall.

Almost ALWAYS in stock

Light:  Bright - Very Bright

Temp:  72-86 F (22-30 C)

pH:  6-8

Nesaea Golden

This plant can be tough to ship especially in the heat sometimes.  It is also a little more demanding to grow.  Once established, the narrow light leaves make it an attractive plant to have especially with it's pink stems.  If you want a splash of color and can do it, you will impress your friends.  The leaves can get as long as 4" and the plant can grow 16-20" tall.  But be warned and get a have a good substrate, very bright lighting, liquid ferts and CO2 ready.  If you really want it to pop, give it a shot of iron from time to time.  These pots ship out around 6-12" tall.

Almost ALWAYS in stock

Light:  Bright - Very Bright

Temp:  72-82 F (22-28 C)

pH:  6-7

You should really have very bright light, slightly soft water, awesome substrate like BBB, liquid ferts, CO2, iron and a good attitude before ordering this plant.

Pennywort

Not really sure where penny came from because these leaves are ten times the size of moneywort.  Hydrocotyle Leucocephala or brazzilian pennywort is easy to grow and grows fast!  If you give this plant nice bright light, the stems will shoot up to the surface and continue to run all over and cover which is good if you want to shade plants below like anubias, but bad if you are shading something else that needs light!  This also means that you can float this plant.  In fact, this unusual plant can go just about anywhere if you want to make sure to trim it to your needs.  Pots ship out around 6-12" tall.

Almost ALWAYS in stock.

Light:  Bright

Temp:  68-82 F (20-28 C)

pH:  5-9

Wide range other than likes light.  Interesting plant!

Telanthera

This plant is much cooler to talk about than most stem type plants.  First off, it is not as hard as some people might think and it acclimates a heck of a lot easier from immersed to submerged.  If you pay attention to this, you will know that this is a GREAT plant to have.  First it prefers a good substrate like BBB.  Second, it loves LIGHT.  Less light has leaves olive-green on top and pink underneath while high light is bronze on top and RED underneath.  Adding iron only makes it pop more!  So listen to me for once and get this plant in the middle of your tank or in patches and act like it's no big deal when friends come over!  Pots are shipped out 6-12" tall.

Almost ALWAYS in stock.

Light: Bright - Very Bright

Temp:  72-82 F (22-28 C)

pH:  6.5-7.5

Bright light, BBB and iron will make you a believer in this easy plant.

Watersprite

This plant is fairly common in the hobby and I have heard a lot of hobbyists say that thriving watersprite is a good indication of a perfectly set up water conditions.  This plant has been known to do ok in lower light conditions due to the fact it can float or continue to grow and spread across the surface.  But brighter light will make it healthier looking.  These pots ship out from 6-14" tall.

Almost ALWAYS in STOCK

Light: Strong - Bright

Temp:  64-86 F (18-30 C)

pH:  5-9

Wisteria

Here is a plant that get me into trouble, well actually a lot of emails.  See this is one of the BEST examples of how plants can transform from one form to another based on conditions.  Typically in cooler conditions the leaf is thick and round about the size of a nickel with jagged edges like a mint plant.  In warmer conditions the leaves get larger and split apart like fingers to look similar to watersprite.  The higher the temp the more wicked they look.   Space this plant out as the leaves get big and if the light is bright enough it will stay full.  To low of light and the bottom leaves drop off and the rest will be spaced apart along the stem.  A great background plant in possibly a discus tank.  Pots ship out around 6-12" and could have either shape leaf.

Almost ALWAYS in stock.

Light: Strong - Bright

Temp:  75-82 F (24-28 C)

pH:  5-9
