Aponogeton 12 Pack
Did you know that there are over 40 species of Aponogetons that are found in Africa, Asia and Australia? They grow in many different habitats from fully submerged to immersed and most are found in marsh and bogs. Since this plant is more "specialized" many of the species will not do well in an aquarium, but there are still more than a dozen that will.
Since this plant likes to grow in areas that dry up, it has the unique ability to shed it's leaves and remain dormant in the mud until the water returns. Because of this, some people get their panties in a bunch when this plant looses it's leaves. It is simply going through it's natural stages and all you have to do is leave it alone, and they usually come back. In fact, some of the more anal hobbyists will remove the bulbs and store them in the refrigerator next to the ham salad. I just leave them alone.
Since they are in your aquarium, 24/7 and not in nature, they get confused I think. It could be suttle temperature changes, or length of day that causes them to go dormant. I suppose they could even have some kind of internal clock. But as long as that bulb stays nice and firm, I leave them alone. If the bulb turns white, smells like Lotsoffish's feet, and gets soft, I throw them out.
The cool thing about Aponogetons is they grow big, and they grow FAST. You can almost watch them grow, they are so fast. The thing I like about them is, even though it says they need bright light, they can't read and I can grow them under shop lights that hang from the ceiling. But it is probably a good idea to give them decent light, and they will help you out by growing tall so the light doesn't need to go deep in the tank.
The ONLY exception to this is going to be the Madagascar Lace. If I ever send you these, find one of your unheated tanks to put them in because they don't like a lot of heat AND they don't like a lot of light. In fact you can grow these things to the size of a bush in an outdoor pond. Since the leaves look like a tennis racket that McEnroe beat on the ground, it's a good idea to have some nice water flow in the tank to keep the junk out of them. But these plants are NICE and worth the effort.
SO LET'S GET STARTED
Just like the title says, this is for 12 Aponogetons. But I am shipping you bulbs only, unless they have small sprouts on them. First off, I can save you money this way since I can put them in a smaller box AND the big plants are super expensive.
See, I could ship you plants that hang down to your knees, but those are hard to ship and the leaves get damaged in transit most of the time. They also can get confused, die off, and then I have to send you 10 emails explaining why it happened.
So, just plant the bulbs, and experience the excitement of watching these things grow. Apongetons make great centerpieces or barriers to hide crap like heaters and uplift tubes. Plus they each have a unique shape and color.
I will also do you a big favor and label the bulbs, so you can read up on them, especially the Lace, so you don't put them in a Discus tank even though you want to.
12 Bulbs of whatever I have in stock, and I will always do my best to give variety.
