Description

Introducing the least killifish (Heterandia formosa. Worlds smallest live bearing fish. They are highly variable in color and patterning. Sometimes they are pale or washed out looking. For this order, I pick out the best-looking individuals I can find. Spots, bars, stripes, and iridescence are taken into account. I collect the fish from New Orleans watersheds, either Bayou Saint John, City Park, or Audubon Park, depending on the week. I include a balanced male to female ratio. I collect from sites of varying pH and acclimate them all to freshwater prior to shipping. Females can store sperm and females are often incubating young. Some of the females that I send you will be gravid (carrying developing embryos). She won't be conspicuously gravid because stressed near-to-term females can give birth prematurely. That being said, they should reproduce for you soon enough. Post-collection, I tank the fish for at least one week to make sure that they're healthy and energetic. These fish are inspected for fungus, torn fins, and other maladies. I condition the water, bag with breathable industrial fish bags, topping off the air supply with a spurt of compressed oxygen. The water in the bag will be part rain or standing water and part water that they have been living in at the time of bagging + stress coat. This reduces shock and conserves some beneficial flora. I include a few pieces of live aquatic plant in the bags for oxygen cycling and nibbling. I commit to bagging the fish the day that I bring them to the post office. Heat pack when necessary ($3), or cold pack ($1.25). Shipping will be $24-40 depending on where you are. Ill send a USPS calculated quote with the invoice requesting payment. If you have any questions or special requests please feel free to message and if you win the auction and want to tell me something important, please do. I ship USPS Priority on Mondays and Tuesdays. Added insurance on the package is $3 and I will include that on the PayPal invoice Ill send to you. Please note: you have a job to do and its to photograph every stage of package receival and retrieval of the animals from the box. That includes the unopened package, the packaging in the box, the unopened bag and the fish themselves upon arrival. Pictures should be in focus with as much specific context as possible and you should contact me with the update as soon as you open the package. You can even video the process but Ill ultimately need stills to recoup on insurance. My healthy arrival guarantee hinges upon your participation in this process. That being said, H. formosa are a staple in my store and I ship them almost weekly, year round. Success rate is incredibly good as is customer satisfaction (understatement of a word, I hear such enthusiasm over these fish. Theyre quite special. Incredibly low maintenance, variable, adorable and even charismatic at times.
