Banded (Louisiana pipefish). Enjoys daphnia. I will include a small supply. A delightful pet who I have been caring for for a few weeks. This specimen is large. It has gorgeous green near its belly. I will send along floating salvinia because the daphnia that it eats reproduce and live in it. It is very important that you have a constant live food supply for these animals. Collected from Bayou St John, New Orleans. These fish require advanced care so please research them carefully. It eats live daphnia and small amphipods with gusto and I will send a bag of them. I will also be bagging with water that it's been living in mixed with water from the Bayou where it was collected. I suggest opening the bag and keeping the pipefish in the water that I send it with until you can use your test strips to make sure that the water chemistry of your new tank is similar to the water in the bag. Once you have straightened all of that out you will have a delightful rewarding pet pipefish. They are truly outstanding to watch. They are bony fishes, more closely related to tetras and tuna and goldfishes than they are to sharks skates or rays. That may not be news but that factoid was meant to draw attention to how derived and strange pipefishes and seahorses are. Having such an evolutionarily derived pet can be very special. Live arrival is expected and not guaranteed because I adhere to the following practices: I ship by Wednesday afternoon following the order so that the animals arrive within 2 or 3 days after drop-off at Post Office of UPS store. Post-collection, I tank the animals for a minimum of 2-3 days to make sure that they're healthy and energetic. These fish are inspected for fungus, torn fins and other maladies. I condition the water, bag with breathable industrial fish bags, topping off the air supply with a spurt of compressed oxygen. The water in the bag will be part conditioned rain or standing water and part water that they have been living in at the time of bagging. This reduces shock and conserves some beneficial flora. I usually include a few pieces of live aquatic plant in the bags for oxygen cycling. I double bag. The fish will be in air conditioned space when bagged, boxed and transported directed to the post office or UPS store, which is also air conditioned. I commit to bagging the day that I bring them to the post office or UPS store. I bag safely, with insulation and when necessary, a cold pack. My only, previous shipment of 3 has resulted in 3 out of 3 surviving and thriving.
