You will get excellent fishes in excellent condition. *** Depending on the fish we have in stock and the time of year, we may or may not be able to accurately sex them. For this item we guarantee at least one male and one female in the lot of fish. If you have a preference of size or sex, let us know and we'll do our best to meet it. *** The color of most native fishes will vary widely with the season and age of the fish. The photo for this item is a breeding male in full color. This maximum color occurs in the spring of the year if conditions are right. Females, juveniles and non-breeding males are much less colorful. *** Rainbow Darters are easy to care for. Always maintain good aeration. These are stream fish, but don't require fast flowing water as long as good aeration and water quality are maintained. Frozen bloodworms and brineshrimp work well as foods. Other small foods will also be accepted. You may or may not be able to train them to take dry foods. In the wild, they are insectivores feeding on aquatic larvae and other invertebrates including snails. They can live at temperatures from 40 to 80 F. Room temperature is fine. Higher temps will require more oxygen and more food. *** We have been shipping live fishes since 2000. We have extensive knowledge of the natural history of North American Fishes. *** Please let us know if you have any questions: jonah@jonahsaquarium.com *** Visit our web site: http://jonahsaquarium.com/ *** Thanks!
