10 + 2 Mysteries, mixed Jade and Walnut

These colors are fairly uncommon, most people purposely breed pink and purple, maybe ivory. But if you have a tank of natives, or just a very natural 'scape, bright colors may be out of place. So if you enjoy more subtle natural tones like I do, these might be for you. Plus with the subdued coloring the cute faces with orange eyes are more noticeable! :) I didn't breed many of these, I only needed a half dozen or so for myself and wasn't sure how much they would appeal to others. There may be a few more tiny babies but this is probably the only lot of these I will be offering for the foreseeable future.

Jade is a dark body and foot with a gold shell. They photograph poorly but I gave it my best shot in a bunch of different lighting situations. I would describe them as olive in the center with a golden-orange halo around the edges. Walnut is a dark body, gold shell with maroon stripes, these should remain at least slightly lighter than black/wild coloring, they usually look like... walnut wood. The golden halo effect is very muted on Walnut because the maroon stripes are the outermost layer. You will get a mix, I think there are slightly more Jade than Walnut.

These photos go back a few weeks, anytime I was working on their tank I took them out to try to get better photos (hahahaha!). It's mostly the same snails in all the photos below. If you want to see even more, click HERE to expand a slideshow (stays in same window).

The snails you will receive will range from small pea to marble sized, approximately 1/4" to 1/2"+, shown are mostly the available snails.

These do need veggies in their diet. Collard or dandelion greens are great choices. Green beans and peas are good too. Plain lettuce doesn't really have any nutritional value (except Romaine). Spinach contains oxalic acid which prevents the calcium from being bio-available so I don't recommend it as a staple food. They will eat some soft algaes but I would not call them a serious algae eater, regardless of what others may say about how they will end your algae woes.

They like to clean up fish food which has fallen to the bottom. This is important if you ever overfeed. You do not want old food rotting in the tank with the chance that a fish might try to eat it. It's a misconception that snails eat fish poo, sorry, it doesn't work like that. They DO NOT eliminate the need to clean the tank or do waterchanges. Putting too many in a tank will increase the maintenance needed, more isn't better.

Suitable tankmates include most gentle community fish. Most loaches and cichlids are poor choices. Even if the snail is not killed outright, constantly having their antennas or bodies nipped at will make their lives miserable. In a suitable environment, mystery snails are active. A shrimp tank is heaven for them and the shrimp ride around on them.

The winner will receive a comprehensive care sheet which can be downloaded and printed if desired. Briefly, no acidic water, no soft water, no big fish. Temps up to 80F. These make good companions for small & nano fish and especially easy shrimp.
