Two Pink, Two Ivory - Mystery Snails

These do eventually get fairly big, nearly golfball size, so instead of sending you so many that you are overwhelmed in a few months I will make this auction for a reasonable number, you will thank me later. If you decide you love them, and have space for them, just hatch out a clutch of eggs later this year, it's way more fun than buying them! If you are determined to have lots now, email me and I will sell you a boxful. Mystery snails are generally plant-safe unless they are starving. The only live healthy plants I have had them munch on is watersprite and Subwassertang. Usually they just eat dead or dying foliage which helps keep your live-planted tank clean.

Shown are some of the snails for sale, I am going to call them pea sized but they will probably be bigger. Photos are current, taken July 10th.

These do need veggies in their diet. Collard or dandelion greens are great choices. Green beans and peas are good too. Plain lettuce doesn't really have any nutritional value (except Romaine). Spinach contains oxalic acid which prevents the calcium from being bio-available so I don't recommend it as a staple food. They will eat some soft algaes but I would not call them a serious algae eater, regardless of what others may say about how they will end your algae woes.

They like to clean up fish food which has fallen to the bottom. This is important if you ever overfeed. You do not want old food rotting in the tank with the chance that a fish might try to eat it. It's a misconception that snails eat fish poo, sorry, it doesn't work like that. They DO NOT eliminate the need to clean the tank or do waterchanges. Putting too many in a tank will increase the maintenance needed, more isn't better.

Suitable tankmates include most gentle community fish. Most loaches and cichlids are poor choices. Even if the snail is not killed outright, constantly having their antennas or bodies nipped at will make their lives miserable. In a suitable environment, mystery snails are active. A shrimp tank is heaven for them and the shrimp ride around on them.

The winner will receive a comprehensive care sheet which can be downloaded and printed if desired. Briefly, no acidic water, no soft water, no big fish. Temps up to 80F. These make good companions for small & nano fish and especially easy shrimp.

Hot destinations will require Hold for Pickup so look at your forecast before bidding and email if you have questions. Hot conditions in the Northeast may delay shipment.

Term details are on my Just Me page which was updated January 18th 2013. Read it before bidding. Please do not bid if you cannot pay AND accept delivery promptly, the only reason I delay shipment is weather.

Payment is by PayPal only, no e-checks. When paying with PayPal, you must use a shipping address. If you want shipping to an Unconfirmed address, email before bidding/buying to discuss this.

Shipping is Priority Mail postage for 1 pound from 01888, $5.05 to $6.51. You can check that cost yourself at usps.com, it will be much faster than asking me for a quote, use the online price, not the post office price. Hold for Pickup & Insurance (+$1.95) required at 85F and up. I ship to PO Boxes if it's a confirmed address.

The snails and 8 ounces of water will be divided between two or more poly bags, then doubled bagged and in a styro lined insulated box.

LAG for 4 for 3 days if >30F and <85F.

Some of my other auctions may be combined with this for savings on shipping costs.

Thanks for looking and GOOD LUCK!
