20+ Spotted Ramshorns

Want more than 20? Add only $5 for each additional lot of 10, I can fit 50 in the box!

I don't like calling these blue because unlike blue mystery snails, they don't look blue at all until they are mature adults. Even then it's a soft gray blue, not bright robin's egg blue. I know, I know, you have seen pictures. We've all seen the pictures... I don't know about you but I don't light my tanks for viewing with a camera flash.

They start out with a dull body that ranges from a dull pink to brown and when they get to BB size they look silvery in most lighting (because of the air bubble they trap in their shell) and start getting black spots. As they grow the spots get bigger and more intensely black and the shell is still very clear through pea sized. When they get to maybe 3/8" the shell starts to get translucent instead of clear as the shell gets thicker, you can see that starting to happen in the picture above. Those with pinker bodies may look slightly purple/lavender for a few weeks. The spots keep getting bigger and start to merge, by this time the shell is more opaque and it's harder to see the spots anyways. This is when they sort of look slate blue, maybe 1/2". There is never any blue pigment at all, it's just the way the minerals in the shell are refracting the light over the dark body. As they get older and the shell continues to thicken the color gets lighter and lighter and they are looking less blue, it's more like a cool light gray.

I do keep these snails but it's not because they are blue! I keep them because I like the silvery sparkle when they are very young and the spots when they get older. Photos are all some of the snails available, I tried to light then in different ways.

You can choose any one criteria you want for when I select them, biggest snails, darkest spots, most spots, least spots, lighter bodies or just have me pick the most interesting ones. These snails are the descendants of the same snails I developed the purple ramshorns from so although you are unlikely to get any of those in the offspring, you can expect some which look lavender with spots for a while. I can pick out the ones which will look lavender the longest if you want.

These are very healthy pampered snails, about pea sized up to 3/8". All are big enough to breed. Shell condition will be very good to perfect. At this size they are easy to handle, easy to ship, acclimate easily and most of all aren't about to die of old age. You won't be getting big snails which are at the end of their reproductive lifespan. That's what those large ones are, OLD.

These are too nice to use as feeders so if you are looking for some for your puffer you may want to check my other auctions as sometimes I run feeder auctions.

The winner will receive a comprehensive care sheet which can be downloaded and printed if desired. Briefly, no acidic water, no soft water, no big fish. They will eat soft algae if hungry but live plants only if starving. Temps up to 80F. These make good companions for guppies, nano fish and easy shrimp.

Term details are on my Just Me page. Please read it before bidding. A copy of these terms is also included in this auction as commented out text and can be viewed by looking at the page source. Please do not bid if you cannot pay AND accept delivery promptly. The only reason I delay shipment is my weather.

Payment is by PayPal only, no e-checks. When paying with PayPal, you must use a shipping address. If you want shipping to an Unconfirmed address, email before bidding/buying to discuss this.

Shipping (one pound) is included in the price and will be Priority Mail in a well insulated #4 box (7"x7"x6"). The snails will be divided between multiple bags for safety. I am not offering a heatpack with this, the risk of overheating the snails in such a small box is too great. You have the option of the USPS's free service, Hold for Pickup. To destinations with highs over 85F, Hold for Pickup is required so don't bid unless you can get to the post office during business hours.

LAG for 20 snails for 3 days if >35F and <85F.

Some of my other auctions may be combined with this for savings on shipping costs.

Thanks for looking and GOOD LUCK!
