Description

2 adult breeding pairs of tank raised sawbwa resplendens(also known as the Asian rummy nose rasbora).I've been working with these guys for about a year now. I started with wild caught fish. I've a soft spot for a lot of the fish coming out of Myanmar. It's unfortunate that due to political unrest there many of these fish don't consistently make it into the hobby or are routinely unavailable for extended periods. Since I've started working with them I've discovered they have pretty simple needs and are otherwise very hardy. My goal was to be able to consistently produce tank raised fish. After trial and error I've identified a couple of ways to do so. Eggs can be very gently hand-picked and water incubated like killifish or fry can be harvested from a heavily planted breeding tank. The key to these fish and to many of the fish coming out of Myanmar is cool water. I've found that at tropical temperatures sawbwa respendens waste away. It's as if their metabolism is going too fast they can't maintain body weight. Keep them between 65-70 degrees and the males will be at their best stunning coloration and the females will stay plump with eggs. They spawn daily. The male will stay underneath and slightly aft of the female and mimic her every move. The female will then move to deposit her lone egg on the underside of a leaf or in dense vegetation. The male follows to fertilize the egg. Viability is excellent. Fry hatch in about 24 hours and are tiny. Almost transparent with 2 black eyes. They become free swimming quickly. For such a small size they are surprisingly hardy. I keep fry in a sterlite container to start, with a piece of live hornwort. I feed sparingly twice/day. I use golden pearls and either live microworms or vinegar eels. It take some time before they can handle live baby brine shrimp. Fry are slow but steady growers. I keep 2-3 pairs of fish in a bare 10 gallon densely planted with live hornwort. I feed Tetramin flake, frozen brine shrimp and chopped frozen blooworms. I complete a 50% water change weekly. My water is hard Lake Erie tap water. I'm telling you this so you breed them and pass them around the hobby. This auction will also include a microworm starter culture and a generous portion of live hornwort to get you started. Shipping is $20 non-refundable on top of the winning bid. It includes an insulated box and necessary heat packs to get your fish to you in excellent condition. Due to the holidays this auction will close Thursday 1/2 and ship Saturday 1/4. Payment is due by the end of the day Friday 1/3. If payment is not received as requested, I will relist the auction.
