Description

This week's auction is for 8 juvenile julidochromis transcriptus Gombe approximately 1" in length. The actual parents are pictured and are not the subject of this auction. I acquired the parent fish approx 2 years ago in a group of young fish my friend imported. Even as 1" fish they were really dark with clean pattern lines. I purchased 8 of those imported fish and ended-up with 2 pairs. As those original fish matured their dark coloration deepened while maintaining the clean pattern lines. They developed a bright blue iridescence in the fins. As full grown adults this strain is rather short in length but stocky. The largest fish of the pair is just shy of 3" while the smaller fish is approximately 2.5". They are colony breeders so you can raise multiple generations together along with the parents. I've kept them in a Tanganyikan community tank along with breeding leleupi, comps, brevis and multis with no issues. Batches of fry are observed on a regular basis but they are small in number. Averaging 12-15 young. I think to maximize your spawns they are best kept as a breeding pair in a tank of their own. I keep my breeding pair in a 20 gallon high with one rock cave. I would recommend placing all 8 juveniles in a 20 gallon tank or larger, with plenty of caves. Grow them out and let them pair-off on their own. Once they start pairing-off the fish that have bonded will relentlessly pursue their siblings to death, unless you pull the subordinate fish. Once you have a bonded pair you can keep them in a tank of their own or move them to a community type aquarium. The pair bond appears very strong in this strain and bonded pairs are very gentle with each other. With julidochromis I always recommend an established, cycled tank. They are tolerant of regular partial water changes but seem sensitive to the fluctuation in water quality of a cycling aquarium. I'll also include some nice pieces of java fern and heudelotii bolbitis that grow nicely in my moderately hard water with moderate lighting conditions and no fertilizers. Shipping is $15.00 on top of the winning auction bid and is non-refundable. It includes an insulated box and appropriate heat packs to get the fish to you in excellent condition. If you bid on this auction, please be prepared to pay when the auction closes via Paypal only. I ship on Monday and Tuesday only, so once the auction closes I am preparing your fish for shipment almost immediately by fasting them. Your cooperation is appreciated. Thanks for looking.
