Hello folks!
Happy June!!
This is Conrad Jr's weekly offering and all this stuff was bred over in his fish room!
When he drops off his stuff he hands me a list of what he's giving me with some tips on how to work with the fish and then we usually hang out for quite a while yapping about one aspect of the hobby or another or what's going on regarding in the local fish scene.
If you want to find some "local hobbyists" in your area try to find out if there is a local fish club in your vicinity OR check Facebook for any local hobbyists groups. Meeting local hobbyists, especially hobbyists who are breeding stuff, is a GREAT way to get your hands on some new stuff to work with and many times you can simply trade some of your fish for some of theirs without even spending any actual hard earned money on the fish. You may also find yourself making some life long friends too!
This week he's offering some very entertaining Dwarf Cichlids that live and breed in shells and some high quality Rainbow Fish that get LARGE! Here's what Conrad Jr. dropped off-
6 Juvenile Neolamprologus brevis (shell dwellers) at about an inch long, 12 Juvenile Boesemani Rainbows at a little over an inch long, 8 Assassin Snails and in plants he gave me 1 Piece of Bolbitus heudlotti, a handful of Soft Hornwort, a handful of Naja Grass and finally a Young Anubius Plant.
Conrad's strain of Boesemani are the real deal folks They grow large and develop GREAT color just like the adults you can see on line and in books and magazines. They are NOT those Florida crossed Boesemani Rainbows that I see around quite often!
Here's what Conrad jotted down regarding this box-
All of the items listed in this auction can go into the same tank and right now a 10 gallon tank would suffice.
The Brevis can be maintained long term in a 10 gallon tank and you will end up with an established breeding colony. The Boesemani Rainbows will eventually need a tank with a larger footprint and my Breeder Boesemani are over 5 inches in length. Boesemani's are slow growing though and it will take at least 16 months to get these up to that size. Whether you choose to raise the brevis separately or in the same tank as the young Boesemani, the brevis will spawn and adequately defend their territory to the extent you will have many youngsters survive. These brevis only guard a territory about 6 inches in diameter around their shell and are NOT aggressive outside that perimeter so they will NOT beat up other fish in their tanks. They will also provide you with hours of entertainment while raising their fry in that small area! Also once your Boesemani rainbows get up to size I recommend you place a floating yarn mop in the tank and harvest their eggs daily if you want to try an easy way of breeding them. I incubate those eggs in a floating container with a mild solution of Methylene blue right in the main breeding tank. Keep in mind, it takes Boesemani eggs 10-14 days to hatch so don't give up on then early! The fry are easy to raise and take 05-50 micron Golden Pearls and then baby brine shrimp a couple weeks later.
All these fish and plants thrive and spawn in my hard Western NY tap water. I do nothing special with these plants either If they don't grow in my tap water under 4' fluorescent lights I don't keep it. I also don't use fertilizer or CO2 but one thing I do feel is important is changing out my fluorescent light bulbs regularly. I use them 8 months and replace them.
Thank you Conrad!
I will also add some high quality foods to Conrad's Box-o-Fish! As usual shipping is also FREE and I guarantee live arrival of ALL HEALTHY, high quality stuff!
