Hello folks!
Happy Spring!!
This offering is for the Mated Pr. of Apistogramma cacatuoides triple reds you can see below.
This Pr. has bred 3 different times for me over the last 6 or 7 weeks, I have a good amount of fry from them, and I am ready to pass them on to somebody else.
I am keeping them in my hard alkaline Great Lakes tap water at 80 degrees and they are both in tip top condition.
If you allow me to ship you this Pr. in a timely manner I will include some young dither fish in the box and I highly recommend you take them!
Dither fish are what prevents a Pr. of Cichlids like these from getting confused, fighting with each other and possibly eating their own eggs or fry before you have a chance at separating them out.
I will also send you some high quality foods both the Adults and future fry will aggressively eat although I also recommend you feed this Pr. some frozen fish food IF you want them to continue spawning regularly.
If you are not into breeding fish these fish would also make an awesome addition to any planted community tank and they are a lot easier to keep in a planted tank than Rams cuz they don't prefer their water temperature to be in the mid 80's like Rams do.
I also added a series of photo's I took at the bottom of this offering. Those are to show you how EASY it is to raise these sort of Dwarf Cichlids away from their parents.
Here's what happens if you decide to let the adults raise their own fry. They breed, they take care of the eggs, the eggs hatch and the female takes care of the fry. The fry start to grow, you get all excited thinking you are going to have a nice big batch of Apistogramma cacatuoides triple red's to raise and sell and then after about 2 1/2-3 weeks the Pr. comes into spawning condition again and within about 5 minutes they eat every last one of their fry and start cleaning off an area to lay their new batch of eggs again while you sit there all bummed out cuz you didn't take any proactive measures to save the spawn.
LOL, don't do that folks, all it does is create a lot of frustration for you.
Instead, when you see the eggs like I did on that heater suction cup, simply fill up a 3 gallon pail with about 1 gallon of brand new tap water at the same temperature as your Apisto tank is, add the proper amount of declorinator to the new water, reach in and take the eggs and whatever they laid them on OUT of the tank and place them in the bucket of water. Then simply place an air line NEAR the eggs and within about 3 days those eggs will hatch! Now you have the whole spawn to raise up and you can keep them right in that 3 gallon bucket for at least the first 4-6 weeks of their lives.
It works like a charm and I always have buckets of fish all over my fish room! LOL!
And you know what else? That Pr. of Apistogramma cacatuoides triple red's will lay MORE eggs for you within about 2 or 3 weeks so you better plan on finding a lot of 3 gallon buckets in the near future! And if you don't have a fish room that you keep warm them simply cough up for a couple 50 watt submersible heaters cuz these Apisto's obviously like laying eggs on those submersible heater suction cups!
