Breeder's Challenge� Three to Try!

Pantodon buccholzi, Corydoras sterbai and Danio kyathit

This auction includes three species that are not overly difficult to spawn, but are not very easy either.

Danio kyathit is a beautiful, active danio with a lot of color. Even though it is a danio, it is not as easy to spawn as zebra or pearl danios are. D. kyathit is an egg scatterer, and I have had the most success using a small floating spawning basket with six fish in it at one time. There is no room for the females to get away from the males, and the eggs drop through the basket into the tank away from the breeders. You can build a good basket using plastic needle point mesh glued to the bottom of a plastic margarine dish that has the bottom cut out of it. It should float at the surface, but it it is unstable you can glue a styrofoam ring around the top of the basket. This auction include 8 of these danios, and I will do my best to get you an even sex ratio.

Pantodon buccholzi, the African butterfly fish, is a distant relative of arrowannas. A breeding pair will lay floating eggs amongst plants at the surface. Condition the parents by feeding them crickets, mealworms or an pellet food. A water change with cool, soft water will trigger a spawn. Remove the adults when you see eggs. The fry are very cannibalistic, so if you want to save a lot of them, make sure there are a lot of floating plants for them to hide in. The can eat baby brine as soon as they are free swimming, and they grow fast. This auction includes an adult pair of wild caught butterfly fish.

Corydoras sterbai has financially supported a lot of fish rooms! This auction will include 6 juvenile catfish that are probably a year away from being really regular spawners. They are are little tough to sex at this size (1"+), but not impossible, and I will try to get you and even sex ratio.

The auction is scheduled to end on a Monday, and the expectation is that the fish will ship on Tuesday or Wednesday. Not shipping right away is not a deal killer, but getting the fish to you ASAP is greatly appreciated. New customers need to pay prior to fish shipment. Established customers can pay after fish arrive (I will let you know when you have become an established customer). Payment via PayPal (my account accepts credit cards without you needing a PayPal account). Established customers can mail a check.
