Description

FOUR JUVIE MARBLED CRAYS, FOUR PAIRS OF LIME GREEN OR ORCHID ENDLERS, SIX ADULT TAIWAN FIRE RED SHRIMP, NR!

Hello Aquabid:

I have been absent from Aquabid for the past few months as I have been busy pondering my family's potential plans to relocate. Unfortunately, I acquired a large number of fish several months before my wife and I were offered our dream jobs in Corvallis, Oregon. After thinking through several scenarios involving carting hundreds of fish from one side of the country to the other (See below map and imagine driving a moving truck full of fish...Yikes!), I have decided that I have to get rid of most of my fish (I'm keeping most of my inverts.) My loss is your gain!

It Will Be An Epic Journey

Here's a fun project for you to mess around with. I've really fallen in love with crayfish of late. They have striking personalities and are a hoot to sit back and watch in your tank. Don't believe me? Below is an email from one of my customers about the Marbled crayfish she got from me.

"This is the crayfish that came from you .. now about 4" + long. I made a cave for it .. and is *she* getting territorial!! lol There are two Mystery snails .. the magenta is almost golf ball size (in the first pic above the cave) Earlier today, I caught the crayfish with an attitude .. POed with the snails hanging out in the cave, so she picked up the magenta and literally tossed it out of the cave through the hole. Then later in the day, I caught it with the camera with the yellow snail ,.. only I think my camera flash scared her. I don't think people know just how hilarious these things can be .. lol"

The challenge with most crays is dealing with their appetites for your fish and plants! Most people don't want to have a tank with a single cray in it. So, I've been experimenting with different arrangements. I've found that you can have a thriving community ecosystem with crays, fish, shrimp, and plants that will sustain itself. Win this box if you would like a dynamic and unique aquatic ecosystem in your livingroom!

In this Auction:

Marbled crayfish

Fire Red Shrimp

Fire Red Shrimp

Lime Green Endlers

Lime Green Endlers

Orchid Endlers

Orchid Endlers
Up for bidding are the following awesome pieces of livestock:
  • Four Adult Pairs of EITHER Orchid or Lime Green Endlers
  • Six Adult Taiwan Fire Red Shrimp (One female will be berried)
  • Five, 1/2-inch-long juvie Marbled Crayfish
HERE IS THE PLAN: Clear out a 20 gallon tank or larger. Get some floating plants like Hornwort and some Java moss to tie onto your rocks. Get at least 6 pvc pipe ends from Lowes to use as crayfish caves. Get some slate or other stackable rocks from a landscaping store. Get some driftwood from AB or a fish store. Stack these pieces of rock and driftwod over your pvc caves so your setup appears more natural. SEE MY PHOTO BELOW.

You will get Endlers and Shrimp in this box that will breed very quickly. You will get crayfish that are too small to do any damage to any shrimp or fish for a month or more. Your shrimp and Endlers populations will grow quickly to the point where it won't matter if the crayfish snag a fish or shrimp once in a while. Right now, I have tanks with Cherax var. Blue Moon, Marbled Crays, Electric Blues, CPOs, and C. shufeldtii living with shrimp and Endlers like this. The key is giving the shrimp and Endlers time to build up their population and giving the shrimp lots of cover. Floating plants like Hornwort work really well for this. Java moss allows the baby shrimp to hide from the fish and crays.

Although sometimes referred to as "Endler's guppies," Endlers are not guppies (Poelicia reticulata). Rather, they are a closely related species that was recently (2006) described by a group of German scientists as Poelicia wingei. They were originally collected by evolutionary biologist, Dr. John Endler in 1975 in Lago de los Patos, Venezuela and brought back to the USA, where they became established in the aquarium trade. In the 80's, while traveling in England, Dr. Endler discovered, to his surprise, that his fish had become known in trade as "Endler's Liverbearers." He noted that the fish being sold as Endler's Livebearers had lost much of the color variation present in the original specimens, perhaps because of genetic drift, inbreeding, and/or hybridization with guppies. Native populations of these fish show amazing colors and have a tremendous amount of variation. Fortunately for us, in the last 15 years, new collections have been made from the populations in and around Lago de los Patos. Sadly, Lago de los Patos is critically threatened by runoff from a nearby garbage dump and numerous other sources of pollution. (Soon many Endlers wild type color variants will probably only exist in the aquarium hobby.) The recent collections have added many fabulous new genetic variants to the aquarium trade. Check out Adrian Hernandez's Endlersusa.com for a ton of information about these fish! The Lime Green and Orchid Endlers that you can choose in this auction originated from Adrian Hernandez's stock.

The next thing we're going to put in this box is 6 awesome ADULT Taiwan Fire Red shrimp. AT LEAST ONE FEMALE WITH BE BERRIED. These guys are a flaming red variant of Neocaridina heteropoda, are beautiful, prolific breeders, and very hardy. This is the same line of these shrimp that Lotsoffish has been selling as Sakura/Fire Red shrimp. They sure look awesome in his photos. Pete got them from Astrochick00, and if you look at my feedback, you can see that she got them from me. I got them originally from Fishshimps. You can check out his current auctions for 10 Adults of this strain that are going for 69.99. Get 'em from me with NO RESERVE and FREE SHIPPING!

Finally, win this box and you'll get 5 juvie 1/2 inch Procambarus "Marmorkrebs," or Marbled Crayfish. These guys are a great beginner crayfish. They are very hardy, eat anything, and have the remarkable ability to clone themselves. Apparently, a single lonely female gained this ability through a ramdom mutation in a pet shop in Germany. This is the only decapod crustacean that is known to have this ability. What this means for you is that you can relatively quickly establish a colony of these crays from a single individual. These guys will eat some plants, so they will do best in a tank with floating hornwort and Najas grass, which is probably best for your Endlers fry anyway.

We're going to ship these little blue jewels to you anywhere in the USA for $15 with a LIVE ARRIVAL GUARANTEE. (No guarantee for any extras included in the box.) We ship via Priority Mail in a Styrofoam-lined box with Kordon breather bags. We offer a NO RISK LIVE ARRIVAL GUARANTEE.
