Description

Livebearer's FRY PACK.... Yep another Special Request....

Yep, another Special request- I had several of these in the last week... this one is just gonna be a fry pack of UNSEXED fry and young juvis... of my swordtail fry. Then some extras to get you started with these.

I'm gonna give you 9-12 fry /juvis in this auctions from the swordtail parents pictured below, but first I'm gonna tell you about these a lil bit.

I got these orginally as WC "Yucatan" helleri swordtails. Havent been able to get any more of an ID on these... but they dont act like any other swordtail I've ever kept.... so thats what Im calling these- is Yucatan peninsula Helleri Swordtails. You can call them WHATEVER you want.

Ive worked with these fish for awhile, got several generations going... and it took QUITE a bit of experimenting to get these HAPPY and THRIVING.... so Im gonna fill you in, because these dont act like your average swordtail.

First off they like ROOM, and BIGGER tanks. I'd suggest a minimum of a 40-45 gallon. In smaller tanks they will not thrive, be very skittish, hide, or pace the tank spastically, and will jump out commiting suicice at their first chance.

Second- they LOVE to be in groups. I keep mine in groups of 9-15. These act alot like a shoaling fish.

Lastly they LOVE being with a smaller fish. Guppies work great, but even neon tetras or another small schooling fish would work!!! I keep mine in groups of 3 trios, with guppies AND cories, in 45-55 gallon tanks... and they are thriving.I STRUGGLED to keep them alive in 20-30 gals in small "normal" groups.

Now recently Ive talked to a couple other hobbist who have the same line of swords... They have found what I said above to be absolutley true with theirs also.Their's are also 'unidentified" except its a strain of 'wild" helleri...

Now these throw a little bit of variety-some are EXTREMELY spotted, some have only a freckle or 2. Some are more of a blue pearl to tealish blue with the red/orange lateral lines... some are a combo of that and an orangy red on the bodies and fins. These are also LATE bloomers... it takes these quite awhile to color up...but they are worth the wait.. and they get HUGE when they reach full size. My adults are over 4 inches long- not counting the sword.

The females on the bottom, a male with the combo coloring on top- whats showing as green, is much bluer / teal than what the photo is showing.

This is a TYPICAL fry- just like you'll be recieving... it shows the blue /teal color much better. But these dont really blossom till they get to be adults.

Ok this photo shows the "other type" of male- less freckles, more of a blue/teal color with the orange and red lines...but again the fry picture gives you a better idea of the REAL true color on these. The flash and background are ruining these picts- SORRY.

Ok this LAST photo- see that adult male random tux guppy in the background- use him for a size comparison against that adult female sword, and the 9 month old males that are still growing....these get BIG.

Now- if you have PATIENCE... which I dont.. this would be a great fish to work with... and seperate out that teal BLUE strain... But these are LATE bloomers, and I dont have that much patience.

Or these would be great to cross breed into a different line of swordtails to get the size, hybrid vigor, and some really neat patterns.Im working on that now..almost got a line finished... those dont take NEAR as long to "grow" up, but still have the HUGE size..

Or leave them as they are- they are plenty colorful in this state, and Ive got 2 big tanks in my living room that have these in them, that are getting turned into SHOWTANKS...I like their uniqueness, and the little bit of variety these throw. Im keeping those "pure".

Then on to the "extras" I mentioned. Im sending you hornwort, and several BABY water lettuce, Because thats how Ive been successful BREEDING these- is using floating plants. Like I said earlier- these are JUMPERS, and dont like small spaces. So I have nursery tanks, and lots of floaters in the main tanks and the nursery tanks. The mommas drop, most fry make it into the floating plants, and are left ALONE there. Without floating plants- they gobble up the fry. With floating plants- they ignore them. Im pulling out drops of 50+ this way... to me thats a plenty.

Now these water lettuce your getting- this is the FULL sized POND variety... but your getting BABIES... let those babies grow, then when they get to big for the tanks, stick them out in your summer tubs... pull the babies off those and bring those back in to your livebearer tanks...the root systems are GREAT for fry. Ive been rotating mine since last fall... the big ones are in an open topped tank... I pluck off the babies and toss them in the other tanks. When they grow up, I rotate, and toss the large ones on the compost pile. Its easier than dealing with the SMALLER floating plants that your always having to scoop OUT, when they get over grown.

Last your gonna get some food samples that these are USED to eating....

Now for all the shipping details, payments, ect- Go read the SPECIAL REQUEST AUCTIONS - either #1 or #2... then come on back- as Im tired of typing it....LOL, its all the same stuff EXCEPT shipping on these is $12.00 vs the 10 in the other auctions.
