This listing is for 5+1 unsexed juveniles. These fish have also been called La Mintzita variatus platy in the past in a few listings I saw, that is why I included it in the main listing. These are beautiful fish. Adults reach 2+ inches. Rare native species from northern Mexico. Peaceful community fish. These platys are very different from other platys in the hobby. The males are very colorful, with black splotches over their body along with a yellow dorsal and tail fin. The males also have a dark spot on their abdomen, similar to the gravid spot on other female livebearers. The female of this species is less colorful and kinda plain looking with the exception of a horizontal stripe(s) that runs along their body, and a very prominent eye spot on their tailfin. This eyespot is a form of camouflage, the male of this species lacks the eye spot. In the wild, eyespots often deter predators, it can also fool a predator into biting the tail instead of the head of the fish, it's unclear why different designs have evolved, and to what degree eyespots actually mimic real eyes, and whether other animals see eyespots in the same way as humans do.They get around 2- 2 1/2 inches in size as adults. make sure you have a tank set up before hand, larger fish in your aquarium may try to eat juvenile fish. So keep that in mind when ordering these fish, may be a good idea to have another tank set up for these fish to grow out more before adding them in with larger fish. !!!!!****THESE FISH ARE JUMPERS*****!!!!! and will jump out of your aquarium, make sure you have a tight fitting lid or heavy amount of floating plants !!! Parameters are: PH 7.0-8.5, nitrite &nitrate should be maintained as low as possible, GH 75-300ppm, KH 120-180ppm. 1ST PICTURE: MALE SPORTING HIS COLORS 2ND PICTURE IS A FEMALE 3RD PICTURE IS A MALE WHEN NOT SPORTING HIS BREEDING COLORS
