Description

2 young pairs of xenotoca doadrioi. These are a smaller, colorful goodeid. The photo shows a young male. As they mature, males develop a striking blue and gold iridescence on their body. Females stay a mottled brown color. Females are the larger of the sexes and grow to about 2". I started with these guys close to 2 years ago and I still have the original adults I acquired. They still look vibrant and healthy. So they are long lived. I colony breed mine. They are in hard Lake Erie tap water at approx 68 degrees. In the winter they go down to about 65 degrees. These are not tropical fish per se. They do not do well at tropical temps in the mid 70's and upward. They are heavy feeders. I feed mine Tetramin flake, Ken's earthworm flake, frozen blood worms, frozen brine shrimp, live blackworms and live baby brine shrimp. They graze heavily on algae and plant matter but not to the extent that they will damage plants. Females produce a small clutch of large fry about every 60 days. The remnant of the umbilical chord can be observed on the fry for several days following birth. I think most hobbyists know the plight of the goodeids. Aside from maintaining captive bred populations to ensure their survival they are a delightful fish to dedicate a tank to. As your colony size increases, it becomes even more important to conduct regular water changes as the bioload in the tank increases as well. While these are not a large fish, they are heavy bodied and heavy feeders. Shipping is $20 non-refundable on top of the winning bid. This auction will ship Monday 8/5 so payment is due at the close of auction Sunday 8/4. If payment is not received as requested I will relist the auction. Thanks for looking.
