First things first. This is the absolute last group of Audax that I have available so I will not be able to send any extra fish with these like I sometimes do. There will only be four fish shipped because that is all I have. I will throw in a few baby yellow rabbit snails and or some Blue Dream Velvet shrimp though if you want them.

Up for auction is young adult breeding group consisting of (3) females and (1) male of Characodon Audax "El Toboso. These fish are young adults who are ready to breed right now.

Typically I only sell young fish but I am turning most of my fishroom into a heated and cooled dog house so I am breaking down a few tanks and because of that these fish became available. I always have a very limited number of Audax available because of the high demand for them and I rarely sell adult fish but since I have to break down a few tanks hopefully I can send these fish to a hobbyist who will enjoy them.

I only ship out live packages on Mondays so I will ship these fish on the first Monday after your payment has been received. Shipping via USPS Priority is $20.

I do not ship fish outside the United States or to Hawaii, Alaska, or Puerto Rico.

Ok now to the fun part.........

Characodon Audax or Black Prince as some people call them are very cool live-bearing Goodeids originally collected in 1982 from a small spring near the town of El Toboso, Durango, Mexico.

Female Characodon Audax are plainly colored as is the case with most all live-bearing fish, but the males have beautiful black fins and black on their body which is why they are reffered to as The Black Prince.

According to some accounts the original location of these fish has dried up so they can no longer be collected from that spot and at the least they are critically endangered in the wild so having more and more aquarium hobbyist keep them could prove to be important to the species in the long run.

The name "Audax" which is Latin translates to bold or daring. Although the name suggests that these fish are agressive I have found that they do quite well in groups and although males do occasionaly quarrel it never causes any damage to any of the fish and seems to just be more of a natural behavior that is honestly kind of fun to watch.

I would recommend keeping these fish in a species only tank with plenty of plant cover which will offer their fry plenty of places to hang out when they are born. I have been keeping Audax for about five years and I have not found them to be vigorous fry eaters as a whole but they will eat their fry if they are just left swimming around in the open so some form of plants even if they are fake would be the way to go.
