Description

Micropoecilia sarrafae (previously IDd as CRM2006111601, �specie 2�), a newly (2011) named, Identified, Micropoecilia. Parents are from the Reznick Lab at UC-Riverside. Collected by Marcelo Pires, in the Mearim River, near Arari in Maranhao, Brazil, Nov 16, 2006. Similar to M branneri and M minima but different and found in a different location. A very pretty Micropoecilia, females get about an inch with males a little smaller. Not an easy livebearer as adults and juveniles are hard on the fry and females. Females only drop a few (1-2) fry at a time and also go on rest periods. Males get a top sword (flag) to their tails. Extremely rare. Featured in an article in TFH by Rich Serva April 2010.
