Description

Hello folks!
This auction is for a total of 10 Young Xiphophorus hellerii "Rio Otapa" Swordtails.
You WILL receive ALL the YOUNG fish you can see below. They are all a little over an inch long but not quite an inch and a half.
These would make GREAT project fish for a pond for anyone over the Summer because these are one of the largest growing of all the wild collected strains of Xiphophorus hellerii.
These "Rio Otapa" are one of the HOTTEST selling Wild strains of Swordtails around right now and let me take a moment of your time to explain WHY that is. First of all maybe I outta explain exactly what Xiphophorus hellerii "Rio Otapa" really are. They are SIMPLY a wild, non domesticated, form of common Swordtail Xiphophorus hellerii. They are called "Rio Otapa" because that is the LOCATION they were collected at and are found at.
ALL the swordtails we see around that are man made strain's like "Brick swords" or "Pineapple swords", etc. are ALL domesticated types of Xiphophorus hellerii.
The reason these Xiphophorus hellerii "Rio Otapa" are so sought after is because they are one of the largest growing of ALL the different location strains of Xiphophorus hellerii. They get HUGE and Males can get up to 8 inches long and females can hit 6 inches and Females don't even have swordtails!
Imagine what a full grown breeding group of these fish would really look like in a big planted aquarium.
Awesome right?
But that's not the only reason they are currently such hot sellers. The real reason they are so sought after right now is Swordtail BREEDERS want to outcross their fish with these Xiphophorus hellerii "Rio Otapa" so they can put additional size on their domestic stuff too.
Anyway, that's the deal with these swordtails and that's why they are so popular right now.
I don't mean to bore everyone with this sort of information but a lot of times newer hobbyists seem reluctant to just come out and ask stuff like "How come everyone seems to want these swordtails? I think they are sort of UGLY myself so what's the BIG DEAL with them?" Well now you know what the big deal is so you won't have to ask that question anymore. I would also add that there are so many different species of fish around that even folks that consider themselves EXPERT hobbyists really don't know a whole lot about fish anyway so you should NEVER feel funny asking questions when talking to ANYONE regarding this hobby. I ask questions ALL THE TIME, sometimes just to be annoying, other times cuz I want to actually know about NEW stuff I have never kept before.
I WILL include a NICE handful of floating plants with this auction PLUS some high quality foods to keep these fish GROWING for you!
