Description

You are bidding on five tank-raised 3/4 (plus or minus) long Chapalichthys encaustus. This is the Barred Goodeid livebearer. The originals came from 'La Presa Orandino' in Michoacan Province of Mexico, where they are considered critically endangered in the wild due to introduction of exotic fishes and habitat destruction. These fish are about 6-7 weeks old. The parents of these fish were given to me several years ago by a member of the American Livebearer Association (ALA). They are VERY RARE in the hobby! My primary female won the BEST GOODEID award at the 2011 Convention of the ALA. She also took third place in OPEN COMPETITION in the 2010 show competition of the Northeast Council of Aquarium Societies, competing against the Best-of-the-Best in a single ALL SPECIES show! This fish was the Poster Child of the Species Maintenance Program of the ALA at the 2011 Convention. A male is shown in the photo. Notice the coloration, especially in the caudal. These fish are typically kept in cool (68-78F) hard (200-300+ PPM) alkaline (pH7.2-7.8) water. The fish is omnivorous, and will require some vegetable in their diet. Live food is not required, but good water changes are helpful. I kept the adults in a colony in a 55 gallon tank. Fry are not cannibalized if well fed and heavily planted. I have found that my larger females do enjoy eating the offspring, so females are now isolated. Fish will be shipped in Styro, and bagged in Breather Bags with Ammo Lock 2 or 'Ship Shape' to reduce ammonia in transit, but I cannot guarantee live delivery via Priority (about $17). Please use Express( about $32) if you must. These shipping prices are AVERAGE PRICES for US delivery. I ship to the USA and have had success shipping to Japan via International Global Priority, about $55. Sorry, because of customs regulations, I cannot ship to Canada or France, and I CANNOT GUARANTEE shipping to other countries. Combine auctions and save on shipping costs! I have been exchanging fish via the American Livebearer Association for years, and now am moving to Florida. I cannot take them all with me. Here is your chance to get some neat fish at a great price!!
