Description

In this auction I offer +40 eggs of Austrolebias wolterstorffi 'Ilha do Leonidio' (Rio Grande do Sul, Southern Brazil). This population has notable physical and behavioral differences compared to other populations of A. wolterstorffi such as the more widespread 'Porto Alegre' population.

Austrolebias wolterstorffi is a large annual killifish that is endemic to the Patos-Mirim lagoon system. Conservation concern for the species is high because it's included in the category Critically Endangered in Rio Grande do Sul and Brazil (Reis et al., 2003; Rosa & Lima, 2008). This difficult situation means that its captive maintenance in our tanks is very important.

A. wolterstorffi are easy to keep and breed. The fry eat brine shrimp from birth. Cold-resistant species, suitable for unheated aquariums, they spawn even at 15-16 degrees Celsius. That being said, A. wolterstorffi is one of the species that in the past were grouped in the genus Megalebias, these grow larger than other species in its current genus and require bigger tanks and a large amount of food to grow, which may be a challenge for some breeders.

I will send the eggs the next days after the payment arrive (Paypal only + 6% fee). The shipping will cost 8 Euro for European countries and 14 Euro worldwide. I can't be responsible for hatching rates, sex-ratio, possible belly-sliders, dissolved eggs on arrival, overheating or undercooling, customs issues, damage to packaging and unexpected problems during transport. I don't ship to Brazil.

Happy bidding and fishkeeping. Enjoy the hobby!
