Description

IMPORTANT: I ship to the address provided in your payment. If paying by paypal, please, please make sure that shipping address is correct before clicking the send button. Shipping days get hectic, and it's easy to miss requests to ship elsewhere. Thanks...

Newly hand-picked eggs of this beautiful killifish, packed in peat. Please note; gularis eggs have a well deserved reputation for erratic fertility and shipping losses. So, I'll pack at least 25 eggs that are 3 days old and showing development, but I would expect hopefully 6 or so fry to hatch. First wetting date ranges from 6 to 8 weeks; ideally, you should check periodically for eyed up eggs. If, after 8 weeks, you don't get at least 6 fry, please contact me, and we can either try another batch, or I can refund the egg price (shipping is not refundable).

Among the most popular and beautifully colored killifish, these are relative "giants" that get 5" and larger. This is the Warri strain, with a lot of blue and orange coloration, and the irregular ringed markings in the orange portion of the tail. Title picture is a male from a previous generation, about 4" long. Photo doesn't catch his full coloration; he's a lot more blue under standard aquarium lighting. Females, as usual, have very little coloration or markings.

Hatching: I prefer to leave the eggs in peat until the expected hatch date, then poke through the peat looking for "eyed up" eggs. If the eggs, calendar or just a good feeling makes me think the eggs are ready, I put peat with eggs into a plastic shoebox, cover with 1/2" of water from an existing tank, and stir for a few seconds. Fry will usually start hatching within 24 hours. At 48 hours, I usually move the fry to a new shallow container, and re-dry the peat to try again in a few weeks.

Feeding: Gularis fry are comparatively large, and can easily consume newly hatched brine shrimp immediately. I start fry out on vinegar eels or microworms, and newly hatched brine shrimp. I also usually add a bit of java moss to the hatching container to theoretically provide a continuous source of infusoria. As they grow, they will accept most frozen "meaty" foods like brine shrimp, bloodworms, and mysis, and will even accept some flake and small pellets. They of course relish live brine shrimp and blackworms as well. Adult Gularis are often fed small earthworms as well.

Cold Weather Shipping: I ship to US only; shipping may need to be coordinated around weather and postal holidays. During the winter cold or summer heat, eggs usually ship the Monday or Tuesday after payment clears to reduce risk of spending a weekend parked outside some postal sorting station. Please include $8 for Priority Mail with heat pack. Multiple egg purchases can be shipped together for no additional postage.

Payment: please pay by money order or paypal within 3 days of purchase. The email address that Aquabid provides in the winning bidder notice is my paypal address, so if you know your total, feel free to pay before contacting me. Otherwise, I usually send out an email within a day of auction end. If you prefer to pay by money order, the Aquabid address is again correct; please let me know when money order is in the mail. I am often looking to clear tanks to make room for the next hatch, so prompt payment is always appreciated.
