Description

Untitled Document

I sell eggs of this species to promote the keeping of killifish in the home aquarium. I hope you enjoy this wonderful tropical fish.

30+ hand picked eggs of Aphyosemion australe orange in about 30-40 grams of moist peat shipped in a 24 x 18 x 2 cm envelope. This is an excellent beginner's killkifish. Eggs are examined daily during the collection process for any unfertilized ones. Unfertilized eggs are removed from the peat and replaced with a new one. Peat and freshly picked eggs are placed in a double zip-lock bag and the bag is wrapped in several layers of paper towel. Eggs will normally ship 2 to 3 days after the bid ends and the buyer will be notified by email when shipment occurs.

Incubation of eggs takes about 14 to 20 days. Fry will eat newly hatched brine shrimp or microworms. Having Java Moss in your rearing tank is a good idea because it provides a source of microorganisms (infusoria) for your fry to eat. I can send you a starter culture of microworms with the eggs for FREE (Canada only).

Extreme care must be taken to maintain water quality in the hatching tank. Fry should be fed twice a day with small water changes twice a week for maximum growth. Growth is relatively fast and your first fish should starting sexing out after about 8 - 10 weeks. Larger fish should be removed from the rearing tank as they can consume smaller fry. These fish take about 4 to 5 months to reach sexual maturity.

This is a fairly hardy killifish that is easy to keep. Parents are in moderately hard water (TDS 225-275 ppm) with a temperature of about 21-24 degrees C and pH of about 7.8. Parents love to eat live and frozen foods including brine shrimp, bloodworms, and tubiflex worms. They will even eat flake foods. Like most killifish they are great jumpers so keep their tank covered.

Aphyosemion australe are naturally found in swamps located in the coastal regions of Gabon and Congo, in western Africa. This species of killifish has been kept by tropical fish hobbyists for more than 75 years. Many different aquarium breed and location strains of this killifish exist in the hobby including chocolate, orange, orange spotless, gold, Cap Lopez, BSWG 97-24 Port Gentil, and Dor to name a few. There are even scattered mentions of an albino type which I have never seen in egg selling lists or on Aquabid.

Shipping will be done when spawning is complete and weather permitting - not too cold or too hot for travel. Please contact me for details when your bid wins.

Shipping and packaging costs for Canada are regular ground post $3.00 (about 3-6 business days in transit) and Xpress post $19.00 (about 1-3 business days in transit with a tracking number). For the United States air mail shipping and packaging costs are $6.00 (about 5-8 business days in transit). I will guarantee live delivery of eggs and the hatching of at least 25% of the eggs to buyers in Canada and the United States, but only once! Abuses of this generous policy will not be tolerated. I do not guarantee that the fish will survive beyond hatching, that responsibility is the buyer's! Eggs will be resent as soon as they are available from the spawning fish.

For international locations, like western Europe, air mail shipping and packaging costs are $10.00 (about 6-10 business days in transit). For International shipping, I can only guarantee delivery of the envelope.

To reduce costs, two auction wins can be combined in one envelope. I will not put three or more auction wins in the same envelope.

Only Paypal payments are accepted.

Eggs are sent from Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada (Google Map).
