Description

Untitled Document

60+ hand picked eggs of Fundulopanchax scheeli in peat.

Incubation of eggs takes about 16 to 22 days. I will send the eggs after a couple days of incubation so I can remove any unfertilized ones. Fry will eat newly hatched brine shrimp or microworms. Having Java Moss in your rearing tank is a good idea because it provides a source of microorganisms (infusoria) for your fry to eat. I can send you a starter culture of microworms with the eggs for FREE (Canada only).

Extreme care must be taken to maintain water quality in the hatching tank. Fry should be fed twice a day with small water changes twice a week for maximum growth. Growth is relatively fast and your first fish should starting sexing out after about 10 - 12 weeks. Larger fish should be removed from the rearing tank as they can consume smaller fry. These fish take about 4 to 5 months to reach sexual maturity.

This is a fairly hardy killifish that is easy to keep. Parents are in moderately hard water (100 mg/L) with a temperature of about 21-22 degrees C and pH of about 7.8. Parents love to eat live and frozen foods including brine shrimp, bloodworms, and tubiflex worms. They will even eat flake foods. Like most killifish they are great jumpers so keep their tank covered.

Fundulopanchax scheeli are found naturally in small coastal rainforest streams located in southeastern Nigeria. Fundulopanchax scheeli is only known to exist in a small region in the lower Cross River drainage basin and its last collection date may be 1990. The International Union for Conservation of Nature's RedList has assessed Fundulopanchax scheeli to be an endangered species. This species of killifish is being threatened in the wild by oil exploration and deforestation.

Shipping will be done when spawning is complete and weather permitting - not too cold or too hot for travel. Please contact me for details when your bid wins. Shipping and packaging costs for Canada are regular ground post $4.00 (about 3-6 business days in transit) and Xpress post $19.00 (about 1-3 business days in transit with a tracking number). For the United States shipping and packaging costs are $6.00 (about 5-8 business days in transit). For international locations, like western Europe, shipping and packaging costs are $8.00 (about 6-10 business days in transit). To reduce costs, two auction wins can be combined in one envelope.

Only Paypal payments are accepted.

Eggs are sent from Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada (Google Map).

The breeder makes no guarantee that the eggs will hatch as problems can occur during transport and in the hatching process.
