Description

Austrolebias affinis- Eggs

You are bidding on 25+ eggs of amazing and rare Peruvian annual killifish - Aphyolebias schleseri Ushpa Cao JRG 2011-11 F3. The fish originates from Beln District, Maynas Province, Loreto Region, Peru.

For breeding purposes the aquarium size should be at least 20 30 litres for a pair or a trio (1 male and 2 females). It is recommended using a small, air-driven sponge filter to prevent water stagnation. Water should be soft with a pH of around 6.5 - 7.0 and a temperature of 23C - 24C. The aquarium can be unlit or moderately illuminated. The males are quite aggressive and territorial. The dominant male can kill all other males in the tank in a few days. I would recommend keeping just 1 male and a few females in the breeding tank. Females are not territorial and do not cause any problem. Protection for the females is only required if the aquarium is too small. Aphyolebias schleseri is a perfect jumper; the fish will find the smallest gap (if any) and escape from the tank. Make sure the lead is very tight.

The fish should be conditioned on a varied live food. Aphyolebias schleseri are substrate divers when spawning. The layer of peat needs to be at least 5 6 cm or even deeper if you want the fish to feel comfortable while spawning. Peat moss or coir is the preferred medium but any other suitable type of spawning substrate can be used. The eggs are medium in size, from 1.2 to 1.5 mm, and can withstand much abuse. The eggs can be difficult to see in the spawning substrate.

The fry are medium in size and can consume BBS at birth. Extreme care must be taken regarding water quality in the raising tank or container. The fry should be fed twice a day with small water changes every 4 - 5 days for the best growth. Fry growth is rapid and fry can sex out in usually about 6 weeks.

Please note that the eggs incubation period of Aphyolebias schleseri can be as long as 8 - 9 months if incubated at 19C - 20C and even longer, depending on temperature fluctuations, peat moisture, and other factors. You need to be patient and to check the eggs every 2 - 3 weeks for their development. You may need to re-wet them several times in a few week periods. You may have some eggs of this species with incubation period over a year with a good hatch rate thereafter. Wet the eggs only when they are fully developed (fully eyed up).

The eggs are posted in a peat moss or coir enclosed in a plastic bag which is placed in a padded bubble envelope. Unfortunately I can't guarantee the hatching, hatch rate, sex ratio, etc. The storage conditions during transportation are out of my control. Please make sure before bidding that the temperature is not too cold at your area. Important: I don't refund money or re-send another pack of eggs if the package is lost in the post, seized by customs of your country, the eggs are dissolved in peat moss for whatever reason, or you did something wrong and couldn't manage to hatch the fry. Please check the eggs on arrival so that if they dissolve later due to wrong incubation conditions or any other reason, you don't tell me that there were no eggs. It's not my responsibility, you deal with Mother Nature! Please read appropriate literature, study various Internet sources dedicated to killifishes before ordering the eggs. Apart from all other things I am a very busy person and I cant physically give instructions to everyone on how to hatch, keep and breed killifishes. Ordering eggs from me you completely agree with all my statements mentioned above. I hope on your understanding. The eggs are sent from Glasgow (Scotland). All prices are listed in British Pounds (GBP). Delivery within the UK is 3.00 GBP, Europe - 7.00 GBP, other countries - 8.00 GBP. Thanks for looking, happy bidding and enjoy your hobby!
