Description

Aplocheilus lineatus Gold - Eggs

You are bidding on 1 week spawn of 1 pair (male and female) of amazing and rare West African killifish -Fundulopanchax kribianus Fifinda ADK 2009-301 (Orange) F3. The original fish was collected near Fifinda in Ocan Department of the South Region (Province du Sud), Cameroon.

It is best spawned in trios of one male to two females in a medium aquarium of around 50 60 litres. It is recommended using a small, air-driven sponge filter to prevent water stagnation. Water should be soft and slightly acidic with a pH of around 6.0 7.0 and a temperature of 20C - 24C. The aquarium can be unlit or moderately illuminated.

The fish should be conditioned on a varied diet of live and frozen foods. Keep the two sexes apart in separate conditioning tanks and select the best male and plumpest females, before placing them in the spawning tank. This method allows females to recover between spawnings. Fundulopanchax kribianus deposit their eggs into the substrate in nature and a layer of peat moss should be provided as a spawning medium. Each trio should only be allowed to spawn for a week or so before being returned to the conditioning tank. The spawning process is hard on the fish (particularly the females) and they can become fatigued and weak if left for too long.

Following the removal of the adult fish, the peat moss should also be removed from the aquarium. It should be placed in a mesh net and dried on newspaper for several hours until it is moist rather than sodden. Then place it in a plastic bag (the zip-lock type are good) and keep it at a temperature of 21C - 23C. Hatching can usually be induced by simply placing the eggs in shallow water in the raising aquarium after 7 - 8 weeks, where the wetting of the eggs stimulates hatching. Do not be tempted to hatch the eggs early, as this can impair the development of the fry. If the eggs fail to hatch, place the peat back into storage for another two weeks. Repeat this until you get a hatch.

The fry are medium in size and can be fed BBS or Microworms right after hatching with the introduction of larger and frozen varieties after 2 - 3 weeks. Extreme care must be taken regarding water quality in the raising tank. The fry should be fed twice a day with small water changes every 2 - 3 days for the best growth. Growth is rapid with sexing out starting after about 4 - 5 weeks. Larger fish should be moved on to another tank as they can eat smaller fry. Velvet is a common killer of fry & should be looked for. The rapid removal of peat from the fry tank seems to lessen the chances of the disease occurring. Fry and young fish mortality has been observed by over feeding over large food. Add 1 teaspoon of sea salt per 1 litre of water for both adults and fry.

The eggs are posted in a peat moss or coir enclosed in a plastic bag which is placed in a padded bubble envelope. Unfortunately I can't guarantee the hatching, hatch rate, sex ratio, etc. The storage conditions during transportation are out of my control. Please make sure before bidding that the temperature is not too cold at your area. Important: I don't refund money or re-send another pack of eggs if the package is lost in the post, seized by customs of your country, the eggs are dissolved in peat moss for whatever reason, or you did something wrong and couldn't manage to hatch the fry. Please check the eggs on arrival so that if they dissolve later due to wrong incubation conditions or any other reason, you don't tell me that there were no eggs. It's not my responsibility, you deal with Mother Nature! Please read appropriate literature, study various Internet sources dedicated to killifishes before ordering the eggs. Apart from all other things I am a very busy person and I cant physically give instructions to everyone on how to hatch, keep and breed killifishes. Ordering eggs from me you completely agree with all my statements mentioned above. I hope on your understanding. The eggs are sent from Glasgow (Scotland). All prices are listed in British Pounds (GBP). Delivery within the UK is 3.00 GBP, Europe - 7.00 GBP, other countries - 8.00 GBP. Thanks for looking, happy bidding and enjoy your hobby!
