FYI: Medaka, for the most part, is �one� fish: Oryzias latipes. Oryzias latipes is a species-complex that contains fixed & variable genetics; some varieties produce offspring that look just like their parents, while others appear through selective breeding. For example, white-platinum medaka typically produce offspring that are identical to their parents, however, the blue sparkle strain commonly throws an assortment of very different looking offspring, such as blue platinum, panda, galaxy, silver sparkle, amber(our favorite)...there are many. Because all our medaka are aquarium born & raised, we are able to select the nicest forms for breeding groups, which promotes more of the higher forms in their offspring.

SHIPPING:
Livestock is shipped in 1 & 2 liter soda bottles placed into a USPS flat rate bag. Why? Soda bottles are shatter resistant and allow us to ship livestock in substantially more water. The additional water/room reduces stress and water toxicity. When transitioning do so in the bottle. If there are plants in the bottle, pick them out beforehand.

The vulnerable time for a package is when out for delivery. Leave your mail carrier a message that you are expecting a highly perishable package, and to deliver it to your door with a knock.

If your overnight lows are below 45 degrees your package will be shipped to your post office for pick up.

FYI: We don�t offer the option of heat packs. They are problematic because they are too hot when not needed, and spent when they are most needed. Shrimp, being an invertebrate, are relatively safe from the cooler temperatures they experience during shipping. If your weather is so cold a heat pack is necessary...it�s simply too cold to order a live animal!!!
