Description

2 young pairs of aphanius mento Ereli Konya Turkey. The males have just started to show their dark breeding coloration. They are an easy cold water killifish to keep and spawn. In my fish room spawning is seasonal because in the winter the water temperature drops under 65 degrees and egg production slows or ceases. As spring arrives and water temp approaches 68 the males start to darken and assume their breeding coloration through fall. I feed my adult fish Tetramin flake, Ken's earthworm flake, frozen brine shrimp and frozen bloodworm. I keep a couple pairs in a 20 long loaded with hornwort. Males establish a small territory in the hornwort and coax females into it to spawn. I've not had good luck hand picking eggs or getting them to spawn in yarn mops. I shine a flashlight into the hornwort. When I see a good number of eggs, I pull that section of hornwort and hatch the eggs in a plastic Sterlite container. Eggs hatch quickly(less than 1 week). Fry are ravenous and will immediately consume live baby brine and microworms once free swimming. Mento prefer hard water and cooler than tropical temps. I think one of the main concerns when trying to spawn them is to realize that they are heavy feeders. Often, the more aggressive feeding males prevent the females from getting their share. When this happens, the females don't achieve good egg production. Shipping is $15 non-refundable on top of the winning bid. This auction will ship Saturday 3/30 so payment is requested by the end of the day Friday 3/29 at close of auction. If payment is not received as requested, I will relist the auction. These are the last I will have probably until late fall. Thanks for looking.
